Maybe somebody should have been busted

I'll try to lighten up the politics discussion on the blog today with this item from Contra Costa County where three unruly women wearing Obama for President shirts and a campaign button tried to vote at the elections office. Told by elections officials that they couldn't wear campaign material within 100 feet of the polls, one women stripped off her T-shirt in front of other voters to turn it inside out. All this caused quite a stir, and the Martinez police were called. No one was arrested.

Well, I'll let the Contra Costa Times tell the full story. Click here.

That shouldn't upset the Republicans. Don't they prefer "top-down" governance?

Where are the pictures?

Funny line, Mike. But in the U.S., Democrats are the party of top-down governance in any respect you could care to name: cultural snobbery, social engineering, centralized 'management' of the economy, and forced redistribution of independently earned income. Wake up, and let go of the liberal canards. Democrats would be the better punch line in your joke. Nice effort though, even as is.

Forgot to mention, nicely done headline by Jim! See, that's wit.

Tony, critiquing comedy isn't your forte, is it?

Looks like it was the Demobrats that were stripping off their shirts. Not so unexpected of them. They are all about top off pants down just ask Bill.

Yup

Ha! That's funny. Was the good looking flip flopper full of shirt I wonder?

Tony... "forced redistribution of independently earned income." That means taxes. Just in case you didn't know what to call it.

Leave Bill alone. Sales of cigars skyrocketed creating an influx of cash into our economy.

As for the gals, why such a fuss? With all the trouble we have getting people to come out and vote, they were reading and willing. They were told they couldn't vote while displaying campaign material. Turning her shirt inside out would have allowed her to vote. Pure dedication was all it was. HA!

Correction "ready and willing"

Scot, it's silly to think that taxes are the same as forced redistribution of income. Taxes are just a mechanism for funding public needs. Many forms of government use taxes without being socialist or communist.

American as well as other governments spend tax money on a wide variety of things. Public needs are only a limited part of that.

Redistribution of income is a non-economic, ideological doctrine. It's certainly not a public need. In fact, in the long term it's economic suicide, especially in a world where more sophisiticated competitors than we are will allow their people the liberty and incentives to create new wealth.

It has nothing to do with taxes except taxes are the means of collection of the funds. Think about it.
