Attorney General Jerry Brown announced Friday that he has endorsed Henry T. Perea for mayor of Fresno. Brown cited Perea's experience in fighting crime and his comprehensive approach to public safety, according to a statement released by the Perea campaign.
This is part of Brown's statement: "I'm proud to endorse Henry T. Perea for mayor of Fresno because I know that he has the experience necessary to address Fresno's challenges with crime, gangs and drugs. His commitment to expanding job training and gang prevention programs is exemplary and as the attorney general, I look forward to working with Henry to make Fresno a safer place to live."
Perea said Brown's endorsement was an honor because of his record of public service that is "clearly remarkable and second to none."
"The accomplishments he and his family have achieved in the past 50 years -- for the benefit of Californians -- cannot be overstated. I look forward to working with him in the future to ensure our residents safety," Perea said in a statement.
This is the second big-name Democrat to back Perea in his campaign against Ashley Swearengin. U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein endorsed Perea earlier in the week.
50 years as a community activist in the City of Clovis, left me rather uninformed about Fresno City government. My connections were on a personal basis, and the Pereas were not among them.
But ex-Governor Jerry Brown's and Senator Feinstein's endorsement for Henry Perea cause me pause to wonder why. I would hesitate to chalk it off a garden variety party loyalty, because Feinstein might as well be a Republican, what I can see. I would have expected her to support Swearengin.
By the way, what ever happened to Senator Barbara Boxer? She is one of the few elected officials today whom I can respect. The news reports are loaded with elected females having gone sour. Or always were to begin with?
And when she was good, she was very, very good. And when she was bad, she was horrid.
The Brown endorsement has got to be a political blunder of enormous magnitude! If there is one thing a Valley politician DOESN’T need, it is to tie his political future to Gov. Moonbeam! What could Perea possibly be thinking? If nothing else, it sure shows his inability to comprehend political realities!
Yea, it's kind of like McCain on stage with Bush, a political blunder.
A reality check: "Gov. Moonbeam" Edmund G. Brown Jr. State of California Attorney General.

Who of the two should command more respect?
Rich:
Or like Obama's Four Amigos: William Ayers, Bernadine Dohn, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and the Nation of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan!!

After Obama is elected this won't be considered nasty campaign politics, just petty whining.
Also refer to Isabell Lawson's post, She's spot on.
I'm much happier now...to the extent I'm beginning to find TC's and Red's comments more humorous than I used to.
Rich:
Well, your probably right about one thing: If Obama is elected, my frequently terse comments "won’t be considered nasty campaign politics, (or) petty whining." It will be be considered illegal speech. I wonder if Americans realize how close we are to losing our 1st and 2nd Amendment rights.
TC,
Over the months of reading your comments a person may think you enjoy living in gloom and doom.
If everyone has put up with reading your comments for this long, it is safe to say you are here to stay.
Above all your no standard bearer of advocating amendment rights and the constitution. Supporting Proposition 8 is discrimination, and against civil rights.
Rich:
I don’t know what to say in response to your blog other than to say that I abhor discrimination on every level and my objections to the homosexual/marriage "thing" is theology-based and for no other reason.
I know that libs like to present it as a "rights issue." That’s a red herring. It’s only a moral issue and Biblical truth speaks to morals.
