This may be my favorite election ever. We baby boomers have always liked shaking things up. We like firsts. And now, I have to love it that next January's inauguration will look a little different from all the rest.
All those negative "can't" people out there, well, just get out of the way... .
At a time when older employees in our society are too often made to feel that they are too old, too un-technological, so "last century," John McCain soundly kicks the butts of all his younger competitors on the Republicans' campaign trail... Good for him!
And at a time when a lot of people still think a minority cannot be taken seriously as a national leader, the Democrats roar their approval of Barack Obama. I'm sure Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman and the others who risked their lives to make sure that yesterday might one day come are rockin' and rollin' in heaven today. Was that nomination ceremony not somethin'? I can remember when it was thought that blacks and whites should not marry or have children because * gasp * of the children. Barack Obama takes a lot of people's breath away, but in a very good way.
And now we have Sarah Palin, a mother of five from Alaska, who may become the first woman vice president. We don't know too much about her yet because the announcement was just made this morning, but we know that, politically, it's game on. She went to a state university in Idaho and is not an Ivy Leaguer. So much for the limits on our potential. Will she be good for women or an awful embarrassment? Too soon to tell. But, heck, she can't be any more embarrassing than a vice president who gets indicted like Spiro Agnew, can't spell potato like Dan Quayle or shoots his buddy like Dick Cheney.
Apparently McCain had good things to say about Palin when he spoke at Fresno State. Will Allbritton of The Bee's interactive staff has posted video of his remarks over on the news blog. Take a look at it by clicking here.
Change? You want change? Well, hold on. As the Mouseketeers used to sing when I was a kid, "It's Anything Can Happen Day."
Associated Press Photo: Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, holds the Bible as she was sworn in as governor of Alaska in 2006.
She may be a fine person, and may prove to be a worthy candidate. But I think I speak for a lot of Americans when I scratch my head and say "Palin who?"
When I saw the name Palin, the first thing that came to mind was Monty Python.
She may bring some much-needed pizazz to McCain's ticket, but on the downside, his criticisms of Obama's lack of experience will ring a bit hollow now.
McCain had the courage to do what Obama would not, nominate a woman. Hillary Clinton, replaced with the "other woman" again!
T.C., are you suggesting that Palin was picked because of her gender? Not because of her nearly 2 years of experience as Governor of Alaska, and prior experience as a small-town mayor? Surely you jest!
The Dems spent 4 days pandering to women, promising, promising, promising, holding out hope, then belted the fairer sex in the chops. In 1 hour on Friday morning, the GOP destroyed their pathetic efforts by nominating, of all things, a non-feminist, traditional, conservative mother.
A better qualified candidate has been insulted in a packed stadium by 57,000 members of her own party. Had Edwards been exposed by the american media of what they knew (that he is a piece of garbage), when they knew it, smart Hillary supporters know that she may have taken key southern states in the primaries.
As far as I am concerned "reap what they sow."
I can't help but recognize reference to a recurring head condition. Don't confuse it(ch) with thought provocation, horrible outcomes!
Wow, this is amazing. You guys really believe Palin was picked just because Hillary wasn't? That's quite an admission.
Wow, T.C. You impress me. Just the fact that you would call a mother of five who's a governor of her state, and a candidate for vice president a "traditional" mother just says it all. I'm getting choked up just thinking about it.
Did they turn the Stepford Wives loose on us while we were not looking?
Traditional, conservative mothers of five children, traditionally do not do their best to get away from those children. Though I would understand.
Five children in the White House. Security and all,
the Republicans would have to raise taxes.
Ms Gail:
Perhaps I should have been more specific and said, a "faith and traditional values" mother!
It going to be interesting to see how the libs - the advocates of "non-traditional life-styles" respond to her candidacy.
I have a prediction: the libs will try to show Palin’s "supposed" irresponsibility in having a late Downs syndrome baby - claiming she should have had an abortion. It will be, of course, a despicable and callous tactic - but just what we’ve come to expect from the libs.
BTW, McCain, for once, had a great sense of timing. He sure stole Obama’s thunder!
Mr. Morgan! Not with my life, not with anything would I defend
anyone's right to be vicious.
I had thought that Mr. Limbaugh was a lowlife when he ridiculed the hair
of the Clinton's young daughter for millions of Americans to hear.
Gratefully; this beehive has a limited audience.
T.C., that was beyond the pale. I do not know a single person, liberal or conservative, who would criticize a mother for having a Down's Syndrome baby. Maybe you should get out and meet some real liberals, instead of constantly creating these caricatures in your own mind.
As for stealing Obama's thunder, maybe the Palin pick has set the right-wing blogosphere on fire, but most Americans have never heard of her.
If she tries to compare herself to Hillary at the VP debates, Biden can say "I know Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is a friend of mine. You, Ms. Palin, are no Hillary Clinton!"
"I have a prediction: the libs will try to show Palin’s "supposed" irresponsibility in having a late Downs syndrome baby - claiming she should have had an abortion. It will be, of course, a despicable and callous tactic - but just what we’ve come to expect from the libs."
-T.C. Morgan-
You never cease to amaze me T.
I like his pick, and I look forward to learning more about her. This will truly be history now one way or the other. What a great election this is.
We should not concern ourselves with Ms Palin's Children, but find out where she stands on opening up one of the Nation's last pristine nature reserves to oil expolorations. On the noon news it was mentioned that she was a pro-driller.
Amazing, before we know much about Sarah Palin, the so-called open-minded, progessive, women's right, liberal Democrat crowd of this blog is crucifying her for having a family (Five children in White House comment by Dizzy), for having good looks (Stepford wives comment, again by Dizzy). And the Palin who? comment by Mike D., suggest that her relative unknown status disqualifies her. The same Mike D. who shamelessly supports BO, who also came out of nowhere. And then smears her based on her name (Monty Python comment). Of course, those who comment on the funny name of BO, it's similarity to Osama Ben Laden are racists, or worse.
It makes my heart go pitter pat to see you libs on the run, and making absolute hypocritical fools of yourselves. What a glorious day.
Sheesh, Redpeach. A lot of sound and fury over basically nothing there. Nobody criticized her for having children. That she is unknown is simply a fact. Obama was an unknown in 2004, but he's certainly not one now. Being unknown is not a slam, its simply a fact. And the "Monty Python" comment was an attempt at a bit of humor. Aren't conservatives allowed to have humor anymore?
In construing everything as an "attack," your post just demonstrates that you see what you want to see.
I think she is a great pick. People hasve been concerned that McCain is too old well now if elected thyere will be someone younger to take the reins if something does happen to him and don't think for one second that a mother of five cant get things done because she has to be at the top of her game every second band those that think she has no experience need to think again. Running things in Alaska is like running your own country as it is all alone with the same problems as the US with a diverse population, environmental issues and bordering Canada. She has big responsibility there so I would dsay don't underestimate what she could do. He didn't pick her just because shes a woman but with her on the ticket that could outweigh the Obama black man historic ticket especially since he is only half black. He is as much white as he is black but she is all woman.
If you don't think women will vote for McCain/ Palin, you don't understand the drive to elect Hillary.
For years the democrat party has hung that carrot up for women. All that talk about fairness and decency. Now an African American has knocked that barrier down, a historic moment. His foot now rests on one of Hillary's hands, and he is not reaching anywhere but up to next rung. How much faster could Obama forget?
Until I hear Hillary Clinton say otherwise, that is the way I see it, and that is the way many, the world over, will see it.
I think McCain and Palin are a good match. They both have what they need to get the job done. McCain has been held hostage before and will know how to react when Congress stands in the way of much needed change. Palin, with five kids, knows how to deal with bickering children; a big benefit to handle Congress during their bipartisan bickering. Stop all of the left right mudslinging. Lets judge all the candidates on their strengths and weaknesses. I'm a Democrat that may likely vote Republican. What you guys must think of me!
Women who really care about their rights won't vote for McCain, no matter who his running mate is. We'll probably see 2 or 3 liberal-leaning Supreme Court justices retire in the next 4 years. McCain has said his Supreme Court picks will be like Bush's. So if you care about Roe v. Wade, or if you care about equal pay for equal work, you'd better not vote for McCain. The Ledbetter case is just a preview of what will come if McCain wins.
I don't agree that women will vote for a woman because of gender. I admit some will but only those thinking with their hearts. I was leaning to Hillary because I didn't like Obama but I still wasn't convinced yet. It's not a given; a woman will win when she has what we need. As for Obama and Hillary, everyone assumes Hillary was not chosen as VP candidate because Obama didn't want her. It is just as likely that Hillary didn't want the post. Think about it. Once a VP always a VP. She is a strong person and will want to run the country her way. She has time to wait. She'd be smarter to wait four years and take a run at it again than to take VP. VP to Pres hasn't worked for anybody yet. She's not the type to risk it when she thinks she can go all the way at a later date.
This could have been a most interesting blog. But ach and alas! As in previous blogs, declassee spiteful nonsense found its way in. I appreciate humor, even when it is caustic and directed at [more or less humble] ME; but it must be intelligent. But when it is but the rattle of rocks between somebody's ears; I am out of it.
And the Lawson family, according to their convictions, shall try to keep the wrong man out of the White House, come November.
Happy blogging!
On CNN James Carville characterizes Hillary hold out supporters (PUMA?) as Sgt. Yakushimas!
Is he is talking about an Imperial Japanese soldier who abandoned in the South Pacific, cut off from the outside world, continued to fight after the surrender?
If I wasn't familiar with his interview style, I would say it might be a compliment.
However, I am and it was not.
I still say Obama has something else in mind for Hillary. Something that she's well suited for and wants. They've talked a lot since June 3 and I can't imagine the subject didn't come up.
I'm doing some learning on Sarah. Here's a few things about her I like:
As governor, Palin says she's tried to instill public confidence in the government of a state that's been shaken by political scandals. She won't invite lobbyists to her office and has introduced ethics reform legislation. One of her first acts as governor was to kill the now infamous "bridge to nowhere" pork-barrel spending project. And she put the former governor's personal jet up for sale on eBay.
In an interview with NPR soon after taking office as governor, Palin said her outsider status had pros and cons. "The kind of a disadvantage of being an outsider is you don't know all the players. The advantages are you get to start fresh. You get to start with ideals, and it's worth it."
The following might be the sort of thing to fall under scrutiny but it doesn't seem like a big deal to me:
Palin continues to defy her party. She refused to endorse longtime Republican Congressman Don Young in this year's primary, backing one of his challengers instead. But critics say that Palin is politically naive and more show than substance. In recent weeks she's been dogged by questions over her firing of a state official who refused to dismiss a state trooper involved in a bitter divorce and child custody battle with her sister.
"Fun Facts:"
Palin graduated from the University of Idaho in 1987 and worked for two years as a television sports reporter before becoming a co-owner of a commercial fishing operation. She's also owned an outdoor recreational equipment company. Palin was crowned Miss Wasilla in 1984 and also competed in the Miss Alaska pageant. She likes to hunt, ice fish, ride snowmobiles and eat moose burgers. Her oldest son enlisted in the Army last year and is scheduled to be deployed to Iraq next month.
The above is taken from an NPR story here.
I'm also beginning to get the impression the animal rights people aren't going to like her. You can read more about what's to come here.
Moose, now that is real meat!
You haven't lived till a moose passes by on the trail about ten yards away from you.
Don't try it without the signs of moose permission of course, things can get very scarey without it!
McCain has hit a homerun with Governor Palin as his running mate. She has already given his campaign a huge shot in the arm, because so many Americans are totally pumped up her bringing more of what she did in Alaska to the rest of America. And by the way, she enjoys an 80% approval rating in her home state ... WOW! That in itself, should cause you to give her a fair consideration.
Talk about non-sensical, Mike D. says not to vote for the McCain/Palin ticket if you care about pay equality among the sexes. A woman as VP smashes that notion, and in Governor Palins own words at yesterdays announcement, the first woman VP of the USA smashes the glass ceiling. YOU GO GIRL!
P.S. The concern in this blog about overturning Roe vs. Wade if McCain is elected. Well, it is time for America to face the fact that murdering the unborn is denying that human being the most basic of our Constitional Rights, the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Without your life, all other rights are denied. With so much talk about equality in our society . . . for gays, for minorities, for the least among us. Aren't the least among us the unborn?
Historically, the VP, has been one of the least respected offices in the US government.
Perhaspe more famous was the way that office was dismissed by FDR's 2 term VP John "Cactus Jack" Gardner who referred to his decision to take the job as "the worst damn fool misstake I ever made". (he was house speaker when he took the job). Later, when another famous Texas Demorcat, LBJ, sought out Cactus Jack's opionion on whether to pursue the job, Garner told LBJ the job wasn't worth a "warm pitcher of (micturated fluid), later bowdlerized to read a "warm buck of spit."
I think being from Alaska is a big plus to Palin. She's got international waters on her doorstep; she’s dealt with Russian fishing issues. She’s had to walk the thin line between an oil pipeline and environmental issues. Even the hunting issue in Alaska requires finesse. She has to take into consideration the game needs of the Alaska natives on one hand and the hunters on the other hand. These are the type of issues that require balance. Our country needs balance again. We need to take into consideration issues like the environment but we also need to rebuild our nation, repair our infrastructure. She may just have the skills and perspective that we sorely need.
Redpeach, its no surprise that you want to get rid of Roe v. Wade. A lot of women voters don't, though. And I made my point about equal pay for equal work, which you haven't even addressed. Are you familiar with Ledbetter case? It basically made a mockery of a woman's right to sue for workplace discrimination. You can find the case report here:
http://www.supremecourtus.gov/opinions/06pdf/05-1074.pdf
We can expect more of the same (or worse) if McCain gets to appoint any Supreme Court justices.
Ok now we have some level headed mature discussion. I'd like to think Isabell could, and would, come back and be treated with the dignity and respect that everyone in here deserves.
I'm thinking I'd rather see the McCain/Palin ticket read Palin/McCain. I don't like the fact that McCain wants to stay in Iraq. I don't like his tax policy. I don't like his position on a lot of things, but I might like her's better. And don't get started on the whole abortion issue. That's a completely different thread.
I do find it funny though that people on the right think of her as a fresh new candidate who wants change and will add a new perspective and wants balance in government, etc. etc. etc. as if this is a new concept. Gee, doesn't that sound like someone the left has been enthusiastic about for 19 months?
Mike D.
I addressed the equal pay issue in my last blog, which you must have missed:
Governor Palins as the first woman VP of the United States of America smashes the glass ceiling.
Are you suggesting Palin is not receiving equal pay as Governor, or won't as VP?
Sorry, Redpeach, but electing one woman to a high position does nothing for equal pay for the millions of working women in this country. How does that help Lilly Ledbetter, or anyone else?
What I see in Palin isn’t exactly new and that’s why I like her. It’s about time we returned to some of the values that made this nation strong to begin with. Hard work. Pride. Not wanting something for nothing. She apparently has worked hard for her state; doing what she felt was right and not what the “party” dictated to her. She has been a small business owner. She’s definitely intimate with family issues. She obviously supports the right to bear arms ‘cause I doubt she’s hunting with a rubber band gun. She appears to be out living the same type of life that a big chunk of us middle class are living. The middle class… those who shoulder the majority of the tax burden. Washington is so removed from the people they “represent”. She has the perspective that neither McCain, Obama, or Biden have. I’m willing to take a long look at her.
Scot… I am from the left and I don’t see balance. You are right… change and balance are not new concepts. That’s the problem, we’ve been hearing about them for a long time but I haven’t seen any. This election isn’t about being right or left for me. Frankly, it never has been but this time in particular, we have to choose very carefully. A great orator does not a great President make.
Kim, You're right, a great orator does not necessarily qualify one to be a good president, but if you think that's all Obama is, after all this time, then perhaps you should vote for McCain.
I've said elsewhere that I think Palin makes a better candidate than John McCain, even though she's way too conservative for me. But the fact is, it's still John McCain that will hold the office. And it will still be his policies that he'll be fighting to implement. He still thinks we can beat terrorism around the world in Iraq and has no plans to leave anytime soon. What will that do for our economy?
You haven't seen any change yet because we haven't had the election yet, so I'm not sure what you mean there.

TC, You were pretty close. Check out this insert from an Alaskan newspaper blog:
"Palin will only do things that make her look good. Any woman who just had a special needs child, then runs off to campaign has no morals.
No self-respecting mom who loved their children would do that. Only some egomaniacal beauty queen bent on being in the spotlight would. Her ethics are all about her and what makes her look good. She'll flipflop if it helped her cause. Too bad she doesn't have much to back up her record..."
...so will the libs resort to bashing her motherhood? The answer is clear from the above Alaskan post. Good call, TC!
Good call TC?! Are you kidding me?! T.C.'s quote is not only disgusting, it's highly offensive. And in the same breath he suggests it would be "despicable and callous" if someone did say that while he demonstrates the epitome of despicable and callous with the mere suggestion that "the libs" might.
It's offensive to anyone who understands what it means to have kids. I know of NO ONE who's heart doesn't go out to someone with a special needs child. The mere thought of anyone thinking it should have been aborted is repulsive.
In response to the comment you put up Matt, a very good friend of mine has raised probably over 20 children. As a foster mother, an adoptive mother and a mother who gave birth to four of her own. She always has kids running around the house of all colors and backgrounds. She lately only takes in special needs kids. She just adopted a baby girl with severe Down Syndrome, and is mostly blind. The baby of a drug addict.
This friend of mine would never leave her kids with someone else to pursue her own agenda. If Sarah Palin wants a career and children, that should be fine. You have to admire a woman who can do that. Someone is obviously trying to downplay Palin's role in raising her children since both she and her husband had busy long hour careers. That's just politics. Politics I don't agree with by the way.
At any rate, that article is not even close to the repulsive, immature comment TC made. Don't put yourself in the company of supporting that comment of T.C.'s. It cheapens you.
A humble opinion. The disputed remark gained significance only after other bloggers put their foot into it. It should have been ignored, like most of that gentleman's choler and venom.
I think we are all big boys and girls who should make our own decisions about what to post. Whether or not you find an opinion acceptable or not is your own business. Please don't cheapen our idividual integrity by telling us how to think.
Besides I'm all for more cheapness, especially at the state level.
The democrat philosophy that rewards fiscal irresponsiblity and spending of tax dollars on worthless ideas without audit or outcome is way too expensive for me.
I am thrilled that Gov. Palin has been chosen. It allows us to see several things - McCain's judgement, Palin's judgement and the real choice between the two major party candidates.
Mc Cain's judgement - he went with his gut & did not fully vet his choice for whatever reason. He was behind so he went will motivating the Republican base - Evangelicals.
Palin's judgements - hmm, let her 17 year old daughter date a 25 year man. Said daughter is now pregnant & all are happy that she is keeping the baby! They are getting married! (Has a date been set?) More judgement, tried to have her ex-brother-in-law (a state employee) fired from his job. When the state commissioner wouldn't do it, he was fired! Also does not believe in global warming. Her husband works in the oil pipeline business.
As for a vote for Mrs. Palin is a vote for equal pay for women, please remember Lilly Ledbetter. The Supreme Court decided that she didn't deserve equal pay because she found out 20 years too late!!! The government is more apt to pay equally. The private sector, however, is another story!
I deplore the hypocrisy over Hillary Clinton. Oh, isn't it horrible that they got rid of her as a candidate! PLEASE! The Republicans hate her & she was the constant butt of jokes (did any other candidate have a nut cracker made in their likeness?) They are just sorry that they lost an easy target!!! No way was BO going to pick Hillary. #1 Reason - Bill's finances post-White House would not have stood up to the scrutiny!
As for traditional values, who will be taking care of Mrs. Palin's special needs child, Trig? If her election brings to light the issues parents of special needs children have, then more power to her. She will be one of the lucky ones with health care for her special needs child. Not everyone has that or at the level of help that they need.
If you care about having health care, actually ending the war in Iraq, finding good jobs in the US that can not be exported, ending loopholes for the extremely rich ($5 million & above), equal for women, then vote for Obama-Biden.
If you can not get over the fact that the President of the United States will be half black, that our next President is 72 yrs old & his VP has only 2 yrs experience overall (has she ever even been out of the country with the exception of Canada?),that we stay in Iraq to protect "our oil", that tax breaks given to the rich will "trickle down" to the rest of us, or that you have done great the past 8 yrs, vote for McCain-Palin.
In my opinion, John Mc Cain did us all a favor. The choice is now clear as to how to vote Nov. 4. I will vote for Obama-Biden with a clear conscience that I have chosen the most decent, intelligent & capable team. I hope all of you have the courage to do the same!
I don't think that voting for Obama or Biden rises to the level of courageousness. As a matter of fact I don't believe voting is courageous, unless you walk out in the open with a purple digit afterwards.
Thank you for the offer but I would rather vote for a man who acts on the egalitarian principles for which he speaks. Someone who is comfortable demonstrating a most sought after quality of men by the women of both parties, trust.
I believe Bill was an obstacle to Hillary's aspirations of campaign success, but Achem would not go further that his conduct in and out of office to identify why he is such a liability.
Seriously, Matt, are you scouring newspaper blogs all over the country looking for negative remarks about Palin??
That's just one comment from one poster. There's nothing in that post that even indicates the poster is liberal. So your "good call, T.C." is not a good call.
What a double standard liberals have. The message of womens libers for 30-some years is that a woman can have it all . . . job, family, personal life. But when a conservative has been successful at all these things, the gloves come off, and even a 17-year old is their target.
Why was it not wrong for Hillary to have it all (career, family, personal life), or Barbara Walters, or Katie Courec, or Diane Sawyer?
And why is it that Chelsea Clinton was off-limits to the media, but not Sarah Palins daughter? It is an illustration of more hypocrosy on the left, as well as revealing they will stoop to despicable and callous tactics to win an election.
Really this is a Palin family issue, not a political one. It is not our issue to judge, or pretend to know all the details of, as twolfmom pretends.
McCains response was right on the money....life happens. Teenage pregnancy is a national problem, and happens to at minimum 30% of teenagers. What I respect here, is this family does not just talk their cultural morals, and the importance of family-- THEY LIVE IT. Governor Palin stood by her moral convictions, and chose life for her Down Syndrome child. Now the Palins are living their convictions that they love their children, and will support them, even if they make a mistake. This situation also illustrates that they have successfully taught their children right from wrong, and she will have this child, and plans to wed the father.
Palin has also said that something good comes out of everything, even lifes less than optimum happenings. She is smart, tough, successful, and a fighter, which is just what America needs.
Redpeach, or whom I sometimes refer to as the communist nectarine, you actually do have something to offer when you are not being viciously sarcastic and derogatory. Dare I say it… you are right when you point out the Palins are living their convictions. You are wrong when you conclude that the despicable and callous tactics are limited to liberals. I think the blame can fairly rest on both parties. And… you are right in that Palin should be allowed to have a career, family and personal life just like other successful women, the sad part is that question is never posed to successful men. People seem to forget that children have both a mother and a father. After the first year of nursing is over, both are equally equipped to love, care for and raise children. In fact, over the course of my 23 year marriage, my husband and I switched roles dependant on what was economically best for our family. Don’t kid yourself that the double standard rests only with liberals. If Palin was the Democratic VP pick, rest assured Republicans would be harping the same garbage about her. The issue has more to do with the age of her children than the fact she has them but I believe that being on the ticket does not diminish the love she has for her children. She can still be a strong influence in their lives and a good mom. Who cares if she has help getting the bottles washed, the cleaning done etc. Just because she may not personally do those things doesn’t mean she isn’t being a accessible, loving and caring mom. By the way peachy, this said by a Democrat.
Kim T.
Name me one time when the Republican platform went after the underage children of an elected official, in this way. I can think of none. You are either not paying attention, or in denial if you cannot see the obvious, and intentional propoganda-assasination machine against Gov. Palin and her family being perpetrated by the Obama campaign, his surrogates in the media, and his blogging staff.
Keep in mind that an unplanned pregnancy is not illegal, and has been occurring since the beginning of time. Nothing illegal happened here.
The vast majority of Americans admire and respect the values this family displays. Life is not always a rose garden. Mistakes were made, and the teenage Palin is taking responsibility for her mistake, and moving on. Her choice to include her mother in her dilemna shows trust and love, while her decision to deliver her child, and marry the father displays great courage, and high standards.
I stand by my earlier comments, the leftist media and their mind-numb followerers are displaying despicable and callous tactics when they target a pregnant, 17 year old, to further their agenda.
It is puzzling that you would call me a communist. Looking at your posts, it is clear we are more alike than different in our political views.
Red.....I'm confused, could you go back and quote where you found a liberal in here bashing Palin's daughter for being pregnant? Or where a liberal was bashing Sarah Palin for pursuing a career? Or actually, any hypocrisy at all by one of us.
While you're at it, can you also tell me with a straight face, that you have never known republicans to "stoop to despicable and callous tactics to win an election?"
Red don't you dare drag Senator Obama into this. He has NEVER said anything against Palin's daughter and has continuously denounced anyone who did. He has said from the beginning, and again and again, that the families of the candidates are off limits.
And by the way...he does control the media. Every bit of it. Everything they say and report goes through him first for his approval. It's because he's a ......communist.
And Kim....these are the people you'll be siding with if you vote McCain. T.C. Morgan and Redpeach. You'll be saying they're right.
Thank you Scot. I’m a little confused too Red. I said both sides have used the media “propaganda assassination machine” just as ruthlessly as the other. I submit you are the one with your head in the clouds if you haven’t seen it. You are suggesting the Demacratic platform “went after” Palins children when in fact when questioned about it Obama himself has been firm with the media that he isn’t going to play their smear games. You speak about Palin’s daughter as if I had mentioned her which I did not. The media goes way too far this is true. I miss the days of my youth when our Presidents and candidates were treated with a modicum of respect, heck most everyone was given courtesy. The media has been hard on Democrats too peachy. They did roast Chelsea even after asked to stop and told us all the nasty details including where Bill Clinton stored his cigars. That one was a little too much information!
As for the communist nectarine comment, I apologize; I was not actually calling you a communist. I have been wondering for awhile now what your blog name says about you. It was a play on words said in a teasing manner. Without knowing me there is no way you could know that I tease everyone mercilessly. But what does redpeach mean? Some peaches are red when they are really ripe. Are you telling us you are ripe?
Scot - My papa warned me about boys like you. Tsk Tsk playing on my emotions. I hardly think that T.C. Morgan or Redpeach are representative of all Republicans. As for my vote, not to worry, I'm still swinging in the wind. I've got the books you suggested still in my pile and I'd like a closer look at Palin.
I have no explanation for blogger "redpeach's" near psychotic dislike for every
word I am posting. But unlike his (I presume redpeach is a man) opinion, I am
politically very astute.
It is not the "Democrats or Liberals" who are exploiting Sarah Palin's family life.
But its they, the Republicans themselves because of the governor of Alaska's attributes which are becoming public knowledge in increasing quantity, diversionary tactics are surely needed.
Those who supported Hillary Clinton are not of the same political philosophy
then the Governor of Alaska. And that is a fact; ineradicably.
And President Clinton's young daughter had to suffer embarrassment when Rush
Limbaugh ridiculed her hair for millions of Americans to hear. That is when I changed radio station, to never listen to that station again. And that was my choice to make, and guaranteed to me by the The Constitution of the United States (just in case someone would take umbrage to what I am doing with my own radio in my own home.)
I am not familiar with anything Rush said about Chelsea's hair, so I cannot comment. But on the same token, Rush is not the media, and I hardly compare a passing comment making fun of someone's hair to the personally intrusive, unprofessional, relentless tactics the media has used exploiting the unplanned pregnancy of this 17-year old, and asking for a paternity test to prove that Sarah is the birth mother of Trig.
I wonder, will Isabell stop viewing/listening to all the mainstream media, who have perpetrated these horrific accusations, and reports? That would leave you with only Fox News to watch, since they have been the only network who has treated the Palins with any sort of dignity.
Can you imagine if you were asked similar questions while interviewing for a job? No employer in America could get away with this without a lawsuit.
The name redpeach has nothing to do with age, or gender, but an association with the peaches that grow so well in our valley, and the red blush that adorns them when ripe. And who's deliscous flavor I adore.
I do not dispise you Issy. I just can't bear to see you get away with your outlandish posts, without challenge.
The evangelical right is blood thirsty. They never see a war that they don’t like. They will vote for McCain who is an admitted serial adulterer. I haven’t heard them condemn the pregnancy of unmarried, 17 year old Bristol Palin.
How they distort the Christian message! Jesus was a peace maker and cautioned repeatedly about the sins of fornication and adultery.
And the “faith”based initiative--giving our taxes to preachers--isn’t that unconstitutional?
