Government agencies help identity thieves

The bad guys get a lot of help from governments in their quest to steal your personal information and turn it into credit cards and checking accounts. My column today talks about government's complete disregard for protecting your sensitive personal information. Fresno County is among the worst, with incident after incident of personal information going astray. But county officials just shrug their shoulders, and refuse to take responsibility for their mishandling of the information.

Its time to increase jail time on many crimes. We are at the mercy of many agencies that are not protecting our information. I don't know what else we can do. I do know I am sick of getting 5 or more credit card apps a day in the mail. I spend an hour a day shredding junk that I get in the mail with my name and or info on it.

I know what you mean, Jackie, in the last eight years we've all had to adapt to the fraud lurking 24/7, last year, i read in the bee, 126 million people were compromised....i think that's pretty much every household or at least, everybody knows somebody who's been a victim,...and the experts don't seem to care. when it happened to me they just shrugged and said oh well...
