Breathtaking 'Beowulf'

We caught the whole monster package -- 3-D, Imax -- version of "Beowulf" over the weekend. Yow! I don't normally speak out loud in a movie, but I heard my own voice saying, "Sweeet!"

This is big fun, Hollywood showing off its stuff and producing one impressive afternoon at the movies. We have a teenage guest from Italy staying with us over the holidays and the first thing my husband wanted to do was make sure she saw that film. Oh, yeah, she was wowed, too. Americans definitely get the movie biz. See the trailer by clicking here.

I've been researching Fresno's high dropout rate for an editorial we're working on and the one thing that came to mind when I came out of the theater was, why can't they do that for education? Can you imagine if our teachers could have at their disposal all that razzle dazzle brainpower applied to illustrate their history, geography, computer, science, art, language, government classes? We couldn't lock kids out of those classes.

I'm thinking we need a new Imax Charter School. Let's get after it.

Oh right-Ignore the real problems with public education.Just dazzle them with B.S.Hollywood could produce these to better indoctrinate them. Add a food court at the school and you will have the perfect environment for learning.Really this is the one thing that came to mind after viewing fantasy.I knew you were taking those exchange students to the mall.Where did you go afterwards?Jamba Juice? What was the one thing that came to mind after that? Solving world hunger?

Wow Brian you are such an ass.

I am sure the point had more to do with being able to present educational information in an exciting way.

Now take your pills put on your tin foil hat and type something back to me!

Although Beowolf is not my type of movie perhaps kids would be more interesting presented in that way however the school districts won't even allow the teachers to teach the material in their own manner, they have them so restricted to a curriculum that is not working. They would never spend money on something like that cause they wouldn't be able to get paid so much for doing nothing.

Yeah I am aware of how contrained the teachers feel Jackie. In my more manic moments I dream of teaching kids using a Multiplayer online version of reality like a cross between Second life and World of Warcraft. It could teach anyone. Would have the user interface of WoW with the reality of second life. Programers could teach everything thru a risk/reward style of "questing". Hell it could even be sponsered by the companies that need qualified applicants.

Something like this will and in some ways is happening now. Schools have offered online college education for years. Games have always helped to teach everyone how to master skills. *Shrug just wish it would hurry up and get here.
