Thompson stumbles ... again

thompson.jpgNeither ancient history nor current events is important enough to hold former Sen. Fred Thompson's attention, not encouraging signs in a candidate for president of the United States.

Once hailed as a potential bright spot in a lackluster field of Republican candidates, Thompson's sparkle is quickly tarnishing, just weeks after he finally announced his candidacy. Maybe he should have spent more time researching some issues -- any issues -- before deciding to jump in.

Today's paper reports that Thompson said he was unaware that a federal judge had ruled last week that lethal injection procedures in his home state of Tennessee were unconstitutional or that the U.S. Supreme Court this week had agreed to consider a Kentucky case about whether lethal injection violates the Constitution's ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

Earlier this month while in Florida, Thompson couldn't tell reporters his position on Terri Schiavo, and whether or not the comatose woman should have been taken off life support, claiming not to remember enough about the case that divided many. "That's going back in history. I don't remember the details of it."

Two years ago? Oh, yeah. That's ancient.

Conservative columnist George Will wrote last week about Thompson's inauspicious entry into the race:

Sean Hannity, who is no Torquemada conducting inquisitions of conservatives, asked Thompson: "When you look at the other current crop of candidates -- Republicans -- where is the distinction between your positions and what you view as theirs?" Thompson replied: "Well, to tell you the truth, I haven't spent a whole lot of time going into the details of their positions."

Tell you what, Fred. Stick to the script and keep your day job. And stay away from those clever trick questions.

Can you refer me to anything negative you've written about Democrat candidates for president.Boy,Fred sure sounds like a loser(you're intent) and George Will (How can you be a Cub's fan and be a true conservative) weighed in-so you're right he, ought to just give up.Thanks for the colonoscopy results.

Whaddyaknow - when I saw there was one comment, I thought it would be Brian or T.C. complaining about you ragging on a Republican candidate.

You guys are getting a little too predictable!

Ditto, Brian!

And then there are the Demos running:

"Democrats should run Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for president. He's more coherent than Dennis Kucinich, he dresses like their base, he's more macho than John Edwards, and he's willing to show up at a forum where he might get one hostile question –– unlike the current Democratic candidates for president who won't debate on Fox News Channel. He's not married to an impeached president, and the name 'Mahmoud Ahmadinejad' is surely no more frightening than 'B. Hussein Obama.' And liberals agree with Ahmadinejad on the issues! We know that because he was invited by an American university to speak on campus." Ann Coulter 9/26/07

"And liberals agree with Ahmadinejad on the issues! "

Hardly. Pick any issue - gay rights, women's rights, approach to foreign policy - and he's far closer to you and Ann than to any Democrat.

Senator Fred Thompson is the only candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles don’t change. You have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the polls. That is what Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani have done and all of the Democrats do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.

I know many, many Republicans that will stay home if Rudy Giuliani is the candidate. He does not represent our values as Conservatives, and never will. Mitt Romney is a RINO (though a very nice man) that simply has everything else and nothing to do. “I guess I’ll just try to buy the presidency”. Conservatives will simply stay home and the Democrats will pick up additional seats in the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to completely destroy our Country. Nice picture huh?

However, I think Fred can bring America back together, if that’s even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor. Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred Thompson will bring his own down-to-earth common sense to this Country and strength back to our party. A little of the good old days of faith and family would do well for this Country. If a Conservative runs as a Conservative, he will win!

Think of it this way: Eight years of another Clinton White House? Now if that is not a sufficient enough reason to pull together as a party, as a Country, and fight this socialist liberal takeover of our government, what is? It is not impossible to take back the House and the Senate. We are winning in Iraq—they know it. The best they can do now is stop our progress and choose defeat, just like they did during Vietnam. We lost because Congress chose defeat. History repeats itself when not learned from.

Folks, we are in for the fight of our lives, just as our young men and women are fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afghanistan, we must fight for our Country right here and now! I truly believe Fred Thompson is the one man who can pull this party and nation back together! Rudy Giuliani will just tear us apart as a party. Liberal is liberal every day of the week.

Really tick off the leftists and contribute to Fred Thompson: https://www.fred08.com/contribute.aspx?RefererID=c637caaa-315c-4b4c-9967-08d864cd0791

Mike, if you were paying attention to the interviews of Ahmadinejad and the Bin Laden tape-it's hard to seperate their rants from the democrat talking points.Your mindset regarding our country is closer to theirs than those who protect your freedom. Predictable is OK if your dealing with the truth. It's not when the left can be counted on to distort the truth and mislead Americans to the detriment of our nation.

if Brian and T.C. had something nice to say about republican candidates,...they would.

John, all we ask is that the paper deal fairly.I would say that Rudy and Romney have shown leadership qualities by running a city and a state successfully.Rudy had to deal with 9/11 and did an OK job-not perfect, but OK.The creampuffs on the other side have accomplished very little if anything.There-is that nice enough. It must really suck to be a liberal. You have nothing to invest in emotionally but the defeat of our country.Conservatives ,on the other hand tend to have a pretty positive outlook on life. It's never too late to change your outlook.C'mon you know your on the wrong side of most issues. You've been told lies so long. Just walk away.

there's enough betrayal to go around, it's not specific to one party,..the corporate media would love us to digress into bickering over who tells the bigger lies, while the plunder continues unabated...b.t.w. I still haven't met one person that supports Clinton, and yet the C.M. has declared her heir-apparent to the kleptocracy. We are all being played Brian.

once again ol Fred has made a fool of himself...the U.S.S.R.? geeez, his ignorance of the world reminds me of our war prez...
