Talk about being accident prone. First Sen. Larry Craig accidentally got caught up in a sex sting operation at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport. Then he accidentally pleaded guilty to reduced charges stemming from the sting operation. And then more bad luck for the senator. On Saturday, Craig accidentally resigned. He didn't mean to do it. He just slipped and the next thing he knew he was tumbling into a speech about resigning. After a couple of quick somersaults, he was hugging his wife and crying and everyone thought he'd resigned his Senate seat. His muffled pleas about it all being an accident weren't heard by the drive-by media.
But now the clear-thinking senator is trying to set the record straight and may not resign at all. Heck, it was a bad run of mishaps, and accidents happen to all of us.
Craig was supposed to leave the Senate on Sept. 30, but a spokesman said Tuesday the senator may be reconsidering after an accident investigation team in Idaho declared none of these accidents the fault of the once sure-footed Craig.
The Associated Press has this story about Craig's latest accident. It's unclear whether he has had any other accidents today that could change his story. But right now everything is contingent on him not slipping up.
Keep Craig in, he will be a great poster child for the Republican Party.
I'm sure the Dems. are frothing at the mouth.
If being gay is good - as the Demo libs insist - then all Sen. Larry Craig needed to do to maintain his seat was switch parties.
The Demos continue to ask: Do we really want to live in a culture where men can't pick up men?
More like Reeps are a Party of Gay bashing, than anything else.
These are all "stick men" issues that earn votes.
Don't be like them (gays) so vote for us.
Not that I agree with anything that might let the perv off, but internet columnist Joseph Farah has an interesting constitutional perspective:
"WASHINGTON -- Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, didn't have to plead guilty to sex charges stemming from a men's room encounter with an undercover cop in Minnesota.
All he had to do was hand the police officer a copy of the U.S. Constitution -- the document the senator swore to uphold upon first taking office in Congress 27 years earlier.
There is little ambiguity in Article 1: Section 6, which clearly states no member of Congress can be arrested while traveling to or from official session.
Craig was arrested just after 12 noon June 11. He cast a vote on a high-profile cloture motion on the Senate floor at 5:55 p.m. that same day.
This may be what a high-powered legal dream team hired by Craig is telling him now. Late yesterday, Craig's staff hinted he may not honor his commitment to resign from the Senate effective Sept. 30.
The critical section of the Constitution states: 'The Senators and Representatives shall receive a compensation for their services, to be ascertained by law, and paid out of the treasury of the United States. They shall in all cases, except treason, felony and breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any speech or debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other place.'" What are you implying, T.C. - that this fine, Republican Senator needs to brush up on the Constitution?
Everyone needs to brush up on our constitution; But, it is interesting to note that it wasn't a Democrat that brought up constitutional issues; Could it be that Demos, didn't really want the issue resolved - wanted it to remain - for political reasons? Just asking!
I agree completely, T.C., but more than that, there seems to be an insatiable desire in the mainstream media for all things sordid. Is 2 weeks enough time to stay on this embarresment? They need to move on to the next thing, paris, lindsay, britney, and anna nicole have been so neglected of late, it's just not right.
And let's remember, that in every study over the last 10-20 years, show overwhelming support in the media for "things Democrat." Media and Demo interests run side by side.
"And let's remember, that in every study over the last 10-20 years, show overwhelming support in the media for 'things Democrat.'"
I doubt that's true anymore (if it ever was). But if it is true, it's probably because journalists tend to be smarter and better educated than the average American.
Yea the "media and Demo interests ran great side by side" durring Whitewater and Clinton's impeachment.
So, Mike, that in your estimation, "journalists tend to be smarter and better educated than the average American" is a rationale (or justification) for bias?
And of course, Rich, the media did their job at Ft Marcy Park and on the Vince Foster / Hillary episode - right? (Sarcasm intended).
As I said, I doubt that there is a bias towards the Democrats. I did a quick Google and found a few studies that purported to show a liberal bias, but that's not the same as saying there is support for "all things Democrat." (You do understand the difference, don't you?)
I looked at the abstract of one of the studies (have you?), and it looks to me like the author of the study himself has a political axe to grind. He found that the news media was "biased" because it was to the left of the members of Congress on major issues. But that was in 2004, when the GOP had a majority in both houses.
I mentioned that journalists tend to be smarter and more educated partly because that might explain a liberal bias (I think that the more people learn, the more liberal they tend to be), and partly just to tweak you.
You can lead a liberal to logic, but you can't make them think.
You led me to logic? Where?
Would conservative bias put America in a better place?
Is Fox News Conservative bias. Or is it a mix of entertainment news? That's not to say most all National Media News is entertainment driven.
T.V. Media is just horrendous now days. If it doesn't bleed it doesn't lead. Or else it is Paris Hilton driven.
