Hitting close to the toy box

News of Fisher Price's recall of about a million toys made the issue of unsafe imports from China very personal to me. Affected_L0305.jpgAfter hearing that the recall includes Dora the Explorer and Diego toys -- my daughter's favorites -- I had to check the company's Web site to see which toys were affected. I saw several of the toys she got last Christmas. I find little comfort in the company's assurances that the recall only applies to toys purchased between May and August of this year. Christmas and May aren't that far apart, when it comes to product being shipped from a country around the world. What if they end up expanding the recall to earlier dates?

Lisa, you are right to worry. Our national inspections are woefully inadequate, not only of toys, but tires, food, etc. Iraq and the War on Terror are sucking our nation dry. Look at the bridge in Minnesota, or Highwy 99, or our food poisoning. Time to spend money at home.
