Why are 'Grey's' doctors so stupid?

I know it's only a television show. But some of the recurring plot lines on "Grey's Anatomy" bother me, even though it's one of my favorite programs. 106582_7522.JPG

My first problem: It seems to be a regular thing that main characters drink too much then make irresponsible sexual choices before they've sobered up. Granted (SPOILER ALERT), in last night's episode, we didn't actually see anything happen between Izzie and George. But they woke up in bed together naked after polishing off a bottle of whiskey together the night before. And when one of the people is married to someone else, that's never a good scenario.

My second problem: These people are supposedly studying to become doctors, yet birth control seems to be unheard of. We're only two years into this program (season three, but it was a late midseason replacement when it started) and three of the main women characters have had unplanned pregnancies. Izzie gave her child up for adoption, Cristina planned to have an abortion before she miscarried and Addison did have an abortion, in her back story, before her character began appearing on the program. It seems like medical people would be better at taking the necessary precautions than your average Joe -- or JoAnne.

Of course, who can remember birth control when you're drinking whiskey or downing shots of tequila? The show does demonstrate that actions and choices have consequences. Another fan on a message group I subscribe to pointed out: "Drinking messes with your judgment. If there is one thing Grey's shows, it's always that."

I can draw the line between fiction and reality -- I know these are only characters, not real people. But real people are writing the scripts for this popular program that is in the top of its time slot each week. That means that more than 20 million people are watching each episode.

I just wish the script writers would have the characters make better choices and learn from their mistakes more of the time.

To be fair, Izzie's pregnancy was in her backstory as well and may have even happened before she decided to become a doctor (although from the looks of the girl in the photograph she showed, probably not). And Meredith also had a scare. Remember when everyone thought she was pregnant and it was her appendix?
But, yes, these people should not only know what birth control is, they should have easier access to it what with Izzie's new free clinic. And I'm speaking of both the women AND the men (especially Dr. McSteamy who's probably slept with more women than the rest of them combined).

Hmmm... I guess it's such as escape for that I don't ask too much of it except that it be entertaining. Not that some things/people don't bug me - Izzie was actually sort of getting on my nerves last night. I wasn't too into them getting drunk and falling into bed together - that's more a gut feeling than something logical, though. My guess is that nothing happened. I hope.

Well, I certainly see where you're coming from and the docs demonstrating better judgement would certainly be a more positive example to set, but that's not to say it would be a more realistic example. Without outing anyone I know (myself included) these scenarios aren't too far off of what I see in my own social universe. Well, except of course, any of us receiving $8 million checks.

I think it's crazy people are so hyped up over this. It's life and doctors are people to. Because they have a fancy degree makes them up for better judgment? What about lawyers, priests and teachers? All can do crazy irresponsible things, it's life. It may not be right but its' real.

Speaking of falling into bed, isn't it about time Chief and Bailey get a little lovin'? Not with each other - just in general. They're more responsible characters of course, but not all sex - even on Grey's - has to be about shenanigans!

Next topic: Since when did Preston Burke become so insecure? As if he'd really care about who or what Christina would date/sleep with. Just another example of how this episode really tanked. Is this a sign of more crap to come? And I don't believe we have another episode coming this next week, which makes me feel like this was just a bone thrown to us to make us stop saying, "You people make millions of dollars but can't get out of your own way to give us a new episode each week??!!

We need a fix! Give us another hit of your 'Grey's Anatomy' wonder drug!!" The only part of this episode that made any sense this week was the interaction between Meredith and her father and stepmother.

My son starts his residency in Ohio in June. I've already warned him about the interns and alcohol. lol

I am thisclose to giving up Grey's (I've already given up on Lost). It's become a parody of itself - storylines are recycled, everyone has officially slept with everyone. I mean, where can they go from here? You can only pretend to kill off Meredith so many times.

Oh, and Preston Burke has always been insecure. Every time he has a moment where he realizes he loves Cristina more than she loves him, he "punishes" her by not letting her scrub in on a good surgery. He does this ALL THE TIME, which again proves my point that there's nothing new under the Grey's sun.

P.S. I HATE Izzie. I hope Callie O'Malley punches her lights out before I officially stop watching this show out of pure disgust.

Something just isn't working for about this George and Izzie (Gizzie?) hookup. I think we're supposed to believe they're madly, passionately in love, and George did indeed make a mistake marrying Callie, which he's now apparently going to regret in the worst way. I just don't buy it. I buy that Gizz could have the hots for each other one drunken night, but that's it. Whoever - Bailey? - said that line about controlling such urges, when Izzie was whining about "what if God wanted us to be together?" was so right. But such maturity rarely shows its head on this show. Anyway it'd mean more if you could believe George and Callie actually love each other, and he's torn between two women. Instead it's just silly. Liked the Meredith- her dead mother-Derek-McSteamy storyline, tho. And Burke is pretty much back in my good graces. But I'm not exactly dying to see what happens next.

Anyone think Callie might be pregnant?
