Following today's story in The Bee about the immigration roundup that hit Mendota earlier this month. state Sen. Dean Florez e-mailed this to us:
"Question: How many 'employers' did they arrest for those that had 'pay stubs' in their wallets or purses?"
Good question. My guess would be zero.
Amy Goodman has a column out about how our government is locking up whole families who have run afoul of our immigration laws, in some cases through no fault of their own. I don't know if you plan to run it in the Bee, but it's worth a read.
Mike: Look for Amy Goodman's piece on tomorrow's op-ed page.
I have no problem locking up folks or just outright deporting them. They knew what they were doing was wrong and subjected their families to this. They also deserve what they get because thay have done nothing to overthrow their corrupt government in Mexico. Instead they break our laws and tax our system.I agree that the employers should be getting their butts kicked too. Not just Ag but folks that hire gardeners, housecleaners, construction, etc.. that also pay no attention to our laws. The latest insult was the beg-a-thon for Orange Cove. How many pictures of overweight hispanics walking away with a box goodies do we have to see to realize what a bunch of suckers we are for this sob story. The employers should be taking care of them. They will want them back shortly. Meanwhile they dump them on the public. What about all the money sent to Mexico by these folks.Any of it coming back this way. Not!On top of all this we have to listen to how unfairly they are treated and endure their protests.Fine or jail the employers and deport the illegals and their families( that way they are not seperated). They should be Mexico's responsibility, not ours. We need to stop this addiction to cheap labor and quit trying to mask it as a humanitarian effort.
