Tell politicians you want reform

Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez and Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata say the public doesn't care about redistricting reform. Judging by my phone calls and emails, that isn't true. But it's not me you must persuade, it's them.

So if you believe in competitive legislative and congressional elections, let them know.

You can call Nunez at (916) 319-2046, or email him at Assemblymember.Nunez@assembly.ca.gov

You can call Perata at (916) 651-4009, or email him at Senator.Perata@sen.ca.gov

Here's today's editorial talking about this issue.

Nunez and Perata are also floating the notion that redistricting may be performed in "exchange" for an end to term limits for Sacramento politicians. Term limits were voted in by the voters themselves, the only tool we have to move these politicians out as their districts are set up to keep themselves or their clones constantly in place.
No deals! Voters want BOTH redistricting AND term limits!

I'm a voter, too, but I would gladly give up term limits in exchange for competitive districts. What's the point of terming someone out of office, only to be replaced by someone else with identical views and positions?
