The November runoff election for Fresno County sheriff will pit two veteran law enforcement officers against each other. Cal Minor, a retired California Highway Patrol captain, led a five-candidate field Tuesday, but was not close to getting enough votes to avoid a runoff. As of 11:55 p.m., Minor had 37.4% to 28.1% for Margaret Mims, an assistant sheriff.
For most of the night, the vote count showed Minor and Mims separating themselves from the rest of the field. Tuesday's results set up an interesting runoff election. Minor, 57, worked for the CHP for 33 years before retiring in 2003. Mims, 51, is a 23-year veteran of the Sheriff's Department.
Both have long records in law enforcement and you can bet that the opposing campaigns will be digging into the candidates' backgrounds looking for something to exploit in the fall campaign. We saw some of that in the primary, but not nearly as much as is likely in the runoff.
Here's how the other candidates in the race fared: Sheriff's Capt. Jose "Joe" Flores was third with 15.2% of the vote, followed by Capt. Colleen Mestas with 13.3%. Deputy Chris Curtice was fifth with 5.9%.
To Cedric and Rita, can you say Sheriff Minor?
The voters have spoken loud and clear. Fresno County needs a new Sheriff and Captain Minor is the best qualified candidate for the job.
I enjoyed your party tonight future Sheriff Minor. Thank you Fresno County for hearing our voices. As I said before we need change and there is NO ONE on the inside of our Department who can achieve that. A vast majority of the current administration are Pierce followers. The great news is Pierce has one foot out the door and he will not be looking back anytime soon.
Congratulations Cal, you earned it.
Those congrats seem a bit premature to me. There's still a run-off election, and no telling which candidate the Mestas, Flores and Curtice voters will prefer.
Congrats to Minor and Mims for surviving to the next round, though.
I agree with Mike; the congrats by Anonymous Deputy and rude comment by Jason (can YOU say poor winner?) are premature and hopefully not an indication of what's to come.
It's apparent the citizens of Fresno didn't entirely agree that Minor was the "best" candidate or they all would have voted for him and this wouldn't have gone to a runoff situation.
It will be interesting to hear how the term "best qualified" is defined by the Minor and Mims campaign managers in the future.
Interesting comment by Anonymous Deputy emphasizing "...we need change and there is NO ONE on the inside of our Department who can achieve that."
I wonder...does this mean that every level in between Deputy and Sheriff are incapable of making changes to the working conditions for the Deputies?
Does this insure that the Deputies will have a direct line to Minor if elected and bypass those people inbetween?
I guess I'm just wondering about the lack of faith the Deputies have in (apparently) everyone in between them and the Sheriff. It just makes me wonder, if everyone is so bad in these middle positions, is he going to do something about them too?
I look forward to the November campaign. I'm sure it will be just as interesting as this was.
Fighting the GOOD Fight was what the Deputies (Curtice, Flores, Mestas) of Fresno County Sheriff's Department were doing and I'm sure that the voters that were behind them will step up and know that Margie will follow through to save and assist them in BEING the "GOOD" fight come November.
As to Curtice not winning, yes it's a blow for a great future of this Department. He had little to none media ads early on, those promising votes after meeting him late in the Campaign via door to door, hand-out flyers and the free forums. Still he had a better return as to dollars spent per vote even by those that got 3 times as many and so on. That showed an honest and good vote and not one that was swayed by the bigger monies. I am proud of Chris for running a clean and full hearted campaign and hope to see him again, as he would BE what's best for the future of the Department.
Now with that said, November is a LONG way off, and my heart goes out to the Department and those divided till then. I believe that it will give us a chance though for Cal to really show his true colors of incorrect information, rule bending, and arrogance towards the citizens he wants to represent. If he just understood those few issues, then sure I'd consider him, but to ignore the preventative measures, take money from groups that are questionable, and play dirty in the campaign just sours me.
Margie is experienced in all areas of the Department, and ran Area 3 (from all accounts) very well when there, and that's a TOUGH (Selma Sub-station) one to work as well. Diverse areas, and issues. I wish she'd dump the one commercial though of her 'growing' up as there are a lot better ways to promote her accomplishments and plan for the future. A citizen's advisory board is good, and going after that unclaimed extra money she's mentioned at the BOS works as well. Having the passion and journey she's had in the Department with November Elections looming in the future, I know that will out shine anything that comes up, like "Minor" issues that are nothing more than mud-slinging. This IS the Sheriff's Department for Christ's sake, have some respect!
If he paints her as part of the current administration, he again is throwing at glass houses. Who's to say he won't be at lunch with the 3 amigos (the former Captains 'allowed to retire') and they won't say, "hey what you need to do IS..." and have him bring that suggestion back to the office? No one wants THAT. Margie in several articles, and radio shows has clearly separated herself from the Sheriff's Security Car scandal simply as she was NOT involved with that at all. As to other suggestions of 'changing things' then if she didn't like them, here is only one Commander making those kind of calls and he also is guided by the grace of the BOS funding. In an office of rank and order, you can't make your own rules or abuse that system. It's just not done.
So to the run-off Campaign? Stick to the plans for the Department, the historical experience with ALL the personnel, the rules, respect for the Citizens of Fresno County, and show us what's on the table for November's GOOD fight. Hopefully everyone will know then who's best for this Department.
I know that Minor did get the majority of the votes in this primary election, but the race is far from over. The votes that Mestas, Flores, and Curtice received will now go to either Mims or Minor. I can see many of Curtice's votes going to Minor because he ran on a platform based on distrust of the current admin and he is a white male. Mestas' votes will probably go half and half to each candidate. Those who voted for her because she is female will most likely go to Mims and the other half to Minor. I base this on the fact that many of her supporters are strong Republicans and I just don't see them backing a democrat. I see more of Flores' voters leaning towards Mims than Minor. The bottom line is this primary had such a low voter turnout it was down right embarrassing, I totaled 78,844 voters at last count. The people who think Minor has it won already are fooling themselves. You must remember Mims will get all the undecided voters just because when you read the ballot her title is that of an "Assistant Sheriff". Yes, Minor has a lot more large organizations backing him, but they can't sit on their endorsement alone. There are many voters who didn't know who to vote for in this election. The DIFFERENCE maker for Minor will come down to this, so all of you out there who belong to the FDSA, the CA Highway Patrolmen's Union, and the Probation Officers Assoc listen up. YOU NEED TO GET OUT AND WALK NEIGHBORHOODS TO GET THE WORD OUT, YOUR CANDIDATE IS AN OUTSIDER. If people don't get the word they don't know who to vote for. This idea of having 8 to 10 people show up at a neighborhood walk is absurd and a joke. If you keep that up don't expect a win on November 7th. If these groups get out walk the neighborhoods and put in the work from August 9th to November 7th Minor will win.
For all of you who keep touting how great Mims is and what a great job she did at the Selma Substation. Remember this, in any good organization good workers make the boss look good. I don't know about all of you out there, but when you only get 3 or 4 votes from the FDSA I think that speaks volumes about that person. Oh yes some of you may dscredit the FDSA for one reason or another, but the facts speak for themselves. As an Assistant Sheriff you need to be a leader, manager, and an advocate for those that work for you. Mims may be a decent manager, but she is not a leader or a very good decision maker. Let's face it the perceptions of the people that work for an individual are a good indication of what that individual is really like. I wonder if Rita even knows what the tree amigos look like. She says the former Captains who were allowed to retire, but only one was a Captain. Get your facts straight and focus on the issues of the election. No one really does in this blog and I am getting tired of the senseless rumors that have no factual basis. One minute some of these bloggers are slamming all the management of the department praising Curtice then they are backing the highest ranking member of management, Mims. I have a plan as to how Minor can win the election and needless to say I won't reveal it here.
I believe that the citizens or deputies, will vote for what's best for the Sheriff's Department. The candidate's love and respect, or knowledge of what needs to be done and what CAN be done with the resources available, will be key.
Had Curtice NOT run, Mims would've been my choice as she has the knowledge of the personnel, their capabilities, downfalls, and the department's diverse programs having worked with most of them. Backing Curtice for me, was about character, his plan, and love for the department. Lacking the media PR monies, he came on strong in the last days after the 'free' media forums, but too little too late. As to backing him throughout the Campaign, for myself and others personally, it had little to do with the Security Car issue and investigations. He had the cleaner campaign, the knowledge, and tenacity needed with preventative plans that worked for the future of the Department.
I believe that as to the other Candidate's votes of the Primary, most all will go to Mims as they may be against the current administration, but 99.9% of them (NOT incl. 114 of the FSDA) do NOT want Minor in charge. Not a vote of the lesser of 2 evils, but more a vote for who respects and KNOWS that Department more.
Mims is knowledgeable as to the finances available and those tied up for use as well by the BOS. Above all of that she has the same passion that the other Deputies did to see this department not only 'survive' but flourish as it can to be the best in the state. For Cal Minor this was a 2nd hand luncheon idea for a retiree to do with his spare time. So it seems. When he can't remember numbers, or relay them correctly, the rules of play, ignoring citizens by dismissing those with real concerns at forums, in the media, ALL of that kind of disrespect for Fresno County is not needed.
As to Johnny's comment re: my referring to the 3 amigos.. re: Captains, Captain, Lieutenant, whatever! If I had typed in "Superiors" instead may have been better, but added an "s". I knew these 3 first hand, and then some having interacted with all of them, in the halls, in meetings, along with those at the Admin building and the Sub-stations. There is no doubt as to my information and documented as well, so no need to question my knowledge on these 'past issues' or current ones in the Sheriff's Department.
You can't discount Mim's management of Area 3 given it's more diverse areas, and active than most of the other 4 sub-stations due to the wide range of citizens it represents. Running a sub-station is ALL about decision making, management, and character. IT was common to see Editorials or articles in the paper weekly praising her good work for the Selma residents, the farm lands, and communities she managed.
As to any plan that Minor could have to 'win' the election, if it involves a time machine and going back to take back; his 'school plans', his touting of inaccurate facts, his disregard for the voters themselves, or his attacking those having nothing to do with the Sheriff's DOJ issues, well that could work. Then again he'd be in the same boat. An outsider touting nothing that will make the Department better.
I respect and believe in the sheriff's Department, most all that work there, and would hate to see it taken down by what I referred to as an 8 second bronco rider like Minor. His biggest goal is just to get on, stay on, and get off. I don't believe Minor has the kind of power, youth, or knowledge to even do that. Like an English 3 day event rider, Mims has worked with all aspects of what it takes. The dressage finesse, wide-range cross country (or county) endurance in actions, and structured professionalism of the arena or Administration hurdles. A great comparison when it comes down to who deserves to win that blue ribbon.
Everything about Minor's campaign and issues though at the end was defensive, discrediting the others as he can't get voters to buy what he's selling. A weak part of campaigning is to discredit the villagers that are trying to further their cause and cadidate. Telling the voter that the other guy's apples are worse makes his better? If it looks like a worm, acts like a worm, well no amount of PR is going to have me or many, taking a bite out of THAT BAD apple.
Rita, you and a few others are really becoming nauseating. You constantly complain about negative campaigning, yet YOU and a few others others have NO PROBLEM completely trashing and disrespecting Minor. You need to look in a mirror. You make me sick. Everyone in the negative campaign business on both sides needs to disappear... You to Rita. Each candidate needs to focus on what they bring, then let the votes decide on what they who they want.
Bob, that would be a good thing to do, being positive and I'm all for it. However having Minor or supporters saying he wants to avoid a negative campaign? Did everyone not see his own words on the KFSN 30 and KSEE 24 forums? What comes to mind is demonstrated by a little, 'BLOG theatre':
"Ring, Ring".. "Hello Kettle? This is Cal Minor calling, You're Black!"
Cal was the first to sling away at the candidates, so if any of the opposition or followers had to say anything "negative" it was IN defense, showing the facts/events to be inaccurate. As far as disrespecting Minor? Please! He has publicly disrespected the citizens, the candidates, and some of the deputies in various divisions, just in the primary alone.
Until he can get facts, following rules, events, scheduling RIGHT (things he's doing in the present public's eye view) it's scary to think of what's lies beneath if in charge of the Sheriff's Department. Integrity's not an option in this race, it's what's expected.
Maybe by November Minor CAN come up with a better plan that works, and NOT use that 'Mims is part of the old administration' line, especially just after he's been off dining with the main players that left the ship early. Actually a good commercial for him would be to get the 3 Amigos in suits saying they 'back Cal Minor' for Sheriff. That'd not only be telling the truth but a hoot to watch the fallout on THAT one.
As said before "Bob" just one person's opinion, but attacking a blogger disproves your point, and takes away from whatever message you have made. I've clarified a few things, but this BLOG media is after all about who CAN do the job at hand, and EVERYONE'S (appropriate via Fresno Bee) input based on who might or should win come November.
As to the BLOG question, IF there will be a dirty campaign? If someone could get Cal some Oxy-Clean he needs to still get the mud out under his nails, from the primary.
If this didn't walk, talk, and look like this was "something for him to do in his retirement age", I'd trust him with the keys a bit more, but he doesn't even have any idea as to how that machine works. Mr. Minor DOES deserve the respect for his job well done at the CHP, MAGEC, and Congrats on the needed retirement. NOW enjoy it. Just a 'positive and constructive' suggestion.
Listen to what Mims has to say as she knows what's there, the facts of the day and the future, and what's possible, given her knowledge of the Department, and the BOS. Mims knows the strengths and weaknesses of all the personnel, the reasons for certain departments, and those that could use a restructure. She knows the financing and funding available for the future, along with the tenacity to stick with this as it's her life journey and passion.
When Mims goes back to work on Monday for a few months till the Campaign, it'll be good to see her do the job she loves to do. Assisting the Sheriff's Department in it's GOOD fight for the citizens of Fresno County. Doing what's best, not because it'll look good come the Campaign in November, but because it's what she's been doing since day one. Before November arrives, a lot can happen, so hopefully the Department WILL unite, for the positive.
You can't move everyone safely forward if you have the herd looking back at what's gone before. With the positive outlook and passion that Mims has for the Sheriff's Department, it's a GOOD vote forward.
I just got back from eating Mexican food at Bobby Salazars and now I have a case of Acid Reflux. Does anybody know where I can pick up my $32,000 dollars???
Well good morning to all you bloggers. Rita you need help, you have a lot of anger towards Cal Minor and have no facts to back up your anger or dislike of him. I am glad there aren't three elections because you might pick a third candidate in the last election if Mims didn't make it. I really enjoyed the whole story about the villagers and the rotten apples. What that has to do with this election is beyond me. The better comparison would be to a company or athletic team. When the head coach is involved in a scandal, the teams performance is poor, and morale is low the head coach is fired or resigns. In this case think of Pierce as the head coach who's resigning(not running again). When the head coach is fired or resigns in a situation like this the assistant coaches aren't given the head coaching job, they are out the door with the head coach. The management(in this case the voters) bring in a new head coach(Sheriff) from the outisde who has new ideas, a fresh perspective, and a whole new attitude. My point is that to change things for the better and get the department back on track(winning again) we need Minor as Sheriff. The fact is Mims may not be a major part of the problem, but she is definitely not the solution. We all know if your not part of the solution your contributing to the problem. So Rita, Al, and the rest of you rumor spreading folks who are avoiding the real issues keep it up.
One more thing, Rita, my plan doesn't involve a time machine or going back in time. That once again is a myth that you state along with Minor's invisible friends, the three amigos. No one else has seen them with Minor except for you and several other bloggers that live in fantasy land. Rita I wonder if you work on the 2nd floor of the Sheriff's Dept administration building because you seem to be suffering from the delusional effects of the thin air up there, being far away from the reality. Rita I'll tell you my plan on how Minor's going to win, come see me on November 8th. In the mean time have fun with the villagers and the their apples, your time machine to go back to the past, and your imaginary friends (The 3 Amigos).
Al, you had me laughing for a good few! thanks for the humor!
Johnny, again no anger issues re: Minor. The man was a respected CHP officer for many years and I honor that and the dedication it took. He like all the other candidates deserve a world of gratitude for what they do and have done on a daily basis. It's a respectable career. I also never said that I worked on the 2nd floor of Administration or the 1st or Basement, just Administration and experience with Field Sub-stations as well. As to the 3 amigos, when Cal was asked about them on Ray Appleton's show he flat out said that he's still great friends and meets them for whatever on occasion, and he's sorry for whatever situation they're supposedly hooked up with. That may be not word for word, so don't take it literally Johnny, but it was the basics of what was said, by Minor and Appleton. It was a well known thing that they lunched together was a part of that friendship as that happens with friends on occasion. Not saying there's anything wrong with that at all. Just a bit double sided when he starts to blast others for being associated with the Security Car situation via Administration positions.
Whatever parallels I use in my writing, bad apples, time machines, etc., just brings it home to some or many. It's MY style of relaying that Minor's numbers, rules of campaigning, actions, etc. have been "off base" so far. My style. Your style seems to be one of attacking other bloggers for their opinions, as opposed to backing up your views. Just an observation.
Given that my choice for Sheriff didn't make the run-off, of course I'm going to, (as others will have to do) support the Candidate that will be best for the Sheriff's Department as a whole. Had Curtice not run, for me Asst. Sheriff Mims would've been my choice. I know she has the love, respect, and concern for the Department, the personnel, and more so the Citizens of Fresno County.
On a positive note that is what this is all about. Finding someone, respected, that will do what's best with the knowledge of the tools and capabilities at hand. Asst. Sheriff Mims has the knowledge of the Jail, the Field Patrols, the schools, the Administration and the vast other areas of the Sheriff's Department. That's what I want for Sheriff, someone that's been there and done that. Come November 7th, Asst. Sheriff Margaret Mims will be my vote.
I see that my good old friend Rita is still blogging away. I really like how some of you have talked about Cal running a negative campaign and that he is the one slinging the negative stuff. Someone commented on the dirt under his nails. Rita and Al are two of the biggest slingers on here. Rita has little to no factual basis on anything she says, but continues to speak negatively of Mr Minor. Oh by the way Rita my plan that you laughed at and stated it meant going back to the past isn't all that funny. In fact my plan has gotten a lot of attention from everyone that I have explained it to and everyone agrees that it is a great idea. I'll be sure to let you and Al know on November 8th. As for Rita's comment about 99.9% of those who supported Mestas, Curtice, and Flores supporting Mims it's once again Rita's overactive imagination at work. I have talked to hundreds of real live voters who say they voted for one of those candidates and in the Novemebr runoff will be voting for Cal Minor. Rita I'm sure your angry by now, but you need not be it's ok to be wrong most of the time. You should also look into some letters that have recently been sent out by the candidates that didn't make the November runofff. Those candidates are openly endorsing and supporting Minor. Al you ate a meal at a restaraunt owned by someone who in the past has been in trouble with the law. How do I know that you aren't friends with them or maybe you support that type of activity. Oh yeah now I'm starting to sound like the rest of you when you talk about Cal Minor and the three amigos. I am making assumptions with no factual basis. I sincerely hope those of you who don't like Minor can find some real issues to talk about. Maybe Rita, AL, and one of these other Minor haters can debate me on live television over the real issues of this campaign. Yes, I'll take on all three of you because after Minor's medical condition you three won't have any other real issues to discuss and I'll laugh when Warren Armstrong tells you for fifth time we've already covered Mr Minor's medical condition related to stress and we need to move on.
Not in the least angry Johnny, simply because I know better. My opinion but you're giving yourself too much credit. Slandering another bloggers as it's been done several times via your posts, just negates ANY message.
Also I am not in the least 'wrong' when it comes to the facts, of the Department, the Primary, and associations. Knowing of what's gone by and then being told by the Candidates how things will be under their certain plans, THAT'S my concern.
Making speculations about MY contacts or interactions with the Department IS not only dangerous as the assumptions are TOTALY wrong, but such attacks, not only waste your time and add to this blog being OFF topic. The topic is about the way the Curtice, Flores, Mestas, voters will go, and AS the past issues STILL exist with the Candidates, they'll sadly be part of why or why not someone will cast their vote a certain way.
Simply having seen the fallout from LACK of preventative education and policing, I would hate to see that happen again. I believe that Mims has a great plan to reduce the future crimes of Fresno County and be more communicative than previous Administrations with the Citizens of Fresno County, and the Sheriff's personnel.
I have talked with some of the deputies and although they didn't vote for Minor in the primary, they're considering it now, adding that because they don't know enough about Mims yet. Mostly as they didn't pay attention to her plans during the Primary, but have 4 months to find out. November is a long way off and a lot can happen.
Ignorance is bliss but also dangerous, so an informed vote and positive one for the future of this Department and Fresno County, will BE Asst. Sheriff Margeret Mims, come November.
I am sure that those deputies who didn't vote for Minor will in November. Rita, wake up. There are few surprises coming up in the next few weeks.
I must say you swiched from a huge Curtice supporter to a dedicated Mims follower rather quickly. That's just funny how you switch sides so quickly. Before everything was right about Curtice and wrong with the administration. Now Mims is better than sliced bread.
Most people that read your blogs laugh because you don't know what you want, so your endorsement of Mims is weak at best. Why don't you admit it you work for the department and are hoping Mims gets it so you can get ahead somehow. You wouldn't want Minor to get elected then you would have to start all over, the whole sucking up act. What the department needs is Cal Minor then the members of the department will have to actually start working to prove their worth. Wow, what a concept having people doing real hard work to prove themselves to their boss and the community.
The best candidate for the position of Sheriff is Cal Minor. Don't be fooled by the lies and hate the other bloggers are slanderously spreading about a great leader and a good man.
Taking my vote seriously, as I do, I'm going to go the distance with that informed decision. Given that there are ONLY 2 candidates in the November election, my choice would gladly be to support Asst. Sheriff Margaret Mims for Sheriff. Of course I and many of the other candidate's former supporters and Deputies alike, WILL be voting for who will go the distance and be the best for the future of Fresno County. Margaret Mims has made this Department her life's work and has the solutions needed as Sheriff for a positive move upward and onward. Whether it's the preventative programs, advisory committees, BOS financing, or reassignments, she simply has the only workable blueprint for this department's future.
In response to Johnny's 'comments' about ulterior motives, I personally supported both Curtice and yes, now Mims, without any professional agenda, other than making this department the best in California by backing a worthy candidate. It's all about a good plan, knowledge of Fresno County, it's residents, the diverse programs, personnel history, and their abilities. I know many fine, veteran field deputies, dedicated, Sheriff's support staff personnel, along with those Deputies lost in years past. If there is ANY personal concern, it simply goes to safety issues so that these tragedies will never happen again.
A Sheriff that truly respects and cares for ALL the Sheriff's Personnel along with the residents of Fresno County should be the one choice on the November ballot. When elected Margaret Mims won't let her fellow Sheriff' personnel or citizens of Fresno County down. She'll show up as promised, go by the rules set, while earning respect, as she's done so many times before. Her being elected Sheriff is a solid and healthy step for crime reduction, renewed community pride, and departmental rebuilding. All of that, is possible with a positive vote forward, placed with Margaret Mims for Sheriff come November 7th.
You two should stick to the issues instead of responding to each other. My question is simple:
If as according to the Bee on I believe it was June 1st. it said "....Minor's other past physical problems included neck pain, headaches, insomnia, abdominal pain and psoriasis, according to records filed with the state's Workers' Compensation Appeals Board."
So, if he did in fact receive a $30,000-plus check for a PERMANENT disability, how now does he go on the ABC 30 Forum and say that it was only Acid Reflux and that he had surgery and is now completely healthy? If this was a Permanent disability, don't you think workman's comp. would have paid for him to have this surgery and then sent him back to work? I know from my own experience that it takes allot of hoops to jump through before you get a dime from workers comp. My problem with Minor is that he will not discuss this issue and open his medical records for all to view.
I believe that he either:
A: Lied to workers Comp. about the severity of his stress and/or disability. As shown above what he claimed to workers comp was much more than acid reflux.
B: Told the truth to workman's comp. that he really has a sickness and has a permanent disability and is lying to the public to downplay the severity of his illness to get elected.
Or C: Is in fact healthy enough and his permanent disability is no longer permanent. Maybe he should give that money back to the state if he is in fact no longer injured.
In any of the above scenarios I don't see how he can say that he has the integrity to be the top elected law enforcement official in Fresno County. Just this issue alone is enough to make me vote for Mimms. Johnny keeps saying that they need to go outside the department to get the trust and integrity back to the department. I submit to you that Minor is not the answer. Mimms may not be either but I believe that Mimms will show up for work and try hard for the next four years, and that Minor will try hard but in the end will end up causing more harm than good for the citizens of Fresno County. That is if the stress does not cause him to quit (Again).
Martin, I didn't want to go there as to responding, but had to correct bad facts and also try to keep it to what the positive vote would be for Sheriff. There are so many discrepancies with Minor shown by the issues you listed along with others brought out by the way he handled the Primary. All of that scares me and many others over to the other candidate Margaret Mims. Getting a straight answer from her has never been a problem. She is more likely to care more about what's right for the Department, having her history, and life long dedication to this community.
I agree as to what you said, as it DOES take a lot to get to that level, of Worker's Comp approval. Having gone through disability as well, the moment I was cleared for work I sent back the 2 checks they sent afterwards. I needed the extra, but I was working and bringing in an income. It wasn't my money to use and others that were truly injured needed that money more.
As said before if Curtice had not run, Mims would've been my positive choice, and not one of the lesser evil. One thing you hit on seemed to be evident in many forums, and that was when he closed up and would not share or expound on the concerns at hand. Margaret Mims is one to let you know what's behind the curtain, and where she's concerned, there's nothing to hide.
Again thank you for the education. I thought I read all the articles but missed the part about 'insomnia' and having sleep deprivation is never a good thing. Hopefully he'll be able to get some real rest after November 7th with his continued retirement.
Thank you, Johnny, for having the patience to endure Rita and a few others. I am sure Ms. Rita will have an answer for this too, but I will throw it out there anyway. Mr. Minor has been heavily supported by everone who has ever worked for him. This includes officers from CHP, Fresno PD, and the Sheriff's Department.
Mims has not been supported by ANYONE who has ever worked for her. Rita, why do you think that is? I'm not saying that Mims is not a nice person, in fact she is very pleasant, but Minor is a true leader. That is why everone who has ever worked for Minor supports him, and no one who has ever worked for Mims is supporting her.
And knock off this crap about ONLY 158 deputies voted. The fact of the matter is that 75% of the people who cared enough to vote, voted for Minor. All losers use that rational that not everyone voted, well welcome to the real world. Mims could not even secure the SEIU endorsement and she was in charge of the jail (although that might change as the SEIU leader is not a fan of Mr. Minor).
Hopefully, Mr. Minor will win the election and we can get back to providing basic (and effective) services, then we will move forward together as a unified team. And that is what leadership is all about. Apparently Mr. Minor has a proven track record, so I am voting for him.
