Fresh & Easy reminds us they're still here
The clearance cat food is gone and so is the Fresh & Easy at Cedar and Shields avenues in Fresno.
After announcing its closure a few weeks ago, the store is closed. You can read about its closure here and get the UK perspective on how its parent company, Tesco, is doing here.
I heard there were some pretty good deals on everything from wine to cleaning supplies in its last days.
I also found it amusing that Fresh & Easy sent an email to my home address reminding me that they're still around, with the headline "Thanks for being our friend. We aren't far away." The $5 off $20 coupon was nice (though the store they suggested I go to, at Shaw and Willow avenues, is nowhere near my work or home). The retailer still has lots of other stores in the area. See here.
From Fresh & Easy's email:
Dear Neighbors,You mean a lot to us, and we love being a part of your neighborhood. So while we are closing the store at Cedar & Shields for now, please know we are still here for you.
In fact, you'll find an even better shopping experience not far from here. We invite you to try our nearby store with the special coupon below.
Kind of a diss to the Cedar Ave. store, isn't it?
The Cedar location's closure bummed out a lot of customers, but I can see why they'd rush to snap them up at another store. Any bets on how many customers will travel to another location?

Comments:
Wonder what made them leave Cedar/Shields? I would think that would be a gook location for their stock & trade. I'm so surprised at the business El Toro gets nearby yet the El Toro Tambien, in a much better 'hood, got so little traffic. Who understands these things?

Sad to see them close and also makes me wonder about the finished but never opened location at First/Bullard and a fairly new building at Herndon/Milburn that has the look of a Fresh and Easy.

I think the issue for El Toro Tambien is that Plaza Ventana is relatively close on Shaw - certainly close enough to directly compete - and it's a better Mexican food experience, in my opinion. Plus, El Toro Tambien is not going to beat the taco shops on the Loop for cheaper Mexican fare. So although the 'hood and shopping center are nicer, the competitive environment isn't.
