arrowCarly rips stimulus in Clovis visit

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina stumped in the Valley today where she appeared at window-maker Anlin Industries in Clovis and blasted economic policies supported by her Democratic opponent, Sen. Barbara Boxer.

"Here in Fresno County, 75,700 residents are unemployed, and the unemployment rate has increased by 1.2 percentage points since the so-called economic 'stimulus' plan passed more than a year ago. It's clear that the $862 billion plan has stimulated nothing but growth in the size and scope of government," Fiorina said, according to a statement sent by her campaign.

The Boxer campaign pounced on the appearance even before Fiorina took the microphone, pointing out that Anlin on its web site touts a tax credit passed as part of the stimulus plan that allows homeowners to recoup up to 30% of the cost of replacement windows.

"Ironically, Carly Fiorina is visiting a company whose web site advertises the benefits of the economic recovery act to its customers, demonstrating her lack of knowledge about the economic recovery act that she so strongly opposes," Boxer's campaign said in a statement.

To which Fiorina spokeswoman Amy Thoma replied: "Despite attempting to use the tools available to it under the stimulus, Anlin industries has been forced to layoff more than half its workforce - maybe Barbara Boxer should check those facts next time she tries to claim that the stimulus package has somehow created jobs."

Suffice it to say, Anlin president Tom Vidmar is no fan of Democrats or President Obama. He did not speak at the event, but in an interview he called Obama a "narcissistic Marxist because everything he does is for himself and he doesn't like this country. He degrades our own nation."

Asked why his company promotes the tax credit, he said: "So our dealers can use it as a sales tool, but we're not seeing any results from it."

Fiorina's campaign distanced itself from Vidmar's personal criticism of Obama, issuing this statement:

"While Carly disagrees with many of the President's policies, she does not agree with this sentiment nor does she question the President's patriotism or dedication to the nation. While we appreciate Mr. Vidmar opening his business to us to highlight the devastating unemployment in the Fresno-area, Carly in no way supports these comments regarding the President of the United States."
