arrowPoochigian has five in his corner, one against at hearing

Fresno's Chuck Poochigian will have five people speaking on his behalf at Thursday's judicial confirmation hearing, and one person speaking against him, according to the list of witnesses.

The opposition will come from Geoffrey Kors, executive director of Equality California, an influential gay rights group. The organization gave Poochigian a "zero rating" "for his opposition to LGBT legislation," according to this story in the Bay Area Reporter.

Those speaking on Poochigian's behalf include Anthony Capozzi, a Fresno lawyer and former State Bar president, who recently told The Bee that Poochigian would "make an outstanding jurist."

Other witnesses in support are two justices from the 5th District appeals court in Fresno: Brad Hill and Stephen Kane. Also on his side are Vance Raye, a 3rd District appeals court justice and Kerry Mazzoni, a lobbyist, former state lawmaker and former Secretary for Education for former Gov. Gray Davis.

The hearing is in San Francisco and starts at 2 p.m. Stay tuned to The Bee for updates.
