Madera County watchdog frustrated with supervisors
After three years of attending almost every Madera County Board of Supervisors meeting, citizen watchdog Dale Drozen says he's had enough.
The budget hearings last month seem to have been the breaking point.
In one of his recent mass-emailed "Dog Reports," Drozen writes: "Our Board of Supervisors has demonstrated loud and clear their number one priority is the protection of the family unit within the castle walls. The peasants on the outside can fend for themselves after they pay their taxes and tributes, the draw bridge is raised, to protect the ruling class in the Granite Palace" -- a reference to the $43 million county government building.
Drozen's main complaint is that the county cut some $11 million from its general fund and road fund while the budgets for the administrative office and for the supervisors' offices have increased in recent years (though the supervisors' budget decreased slightly this fiscal year).
A frustrated Drozen concludes: "This old DOG has been on guard for three years. ... It is time to try something different. Dog will no longer be attending meetings of the Board of Supervisors on a regular basis and reporting on their shenanigans."
He also said he's now planning a recall effort: "It is time for a clean sweep. All five SUPERVISORS have shown they have either lost touch with their constituency, their responsibilities and reality or they just don't care. It is past time for some new leadership."
UPDATE: Drozen notes that in a follow-up Dog Report, he backed away from his recall effort because of the complexity of such an endeavor.
