arrowHarris update

The Rev. Floyd Harris Jr. said today that he plans to run in 2010 for either the Fresno City Council or Fresno County Board of Supervisors.

A news release -- announcing Harris' Thursday appearance before the Democratic Women of Tulare County -- said he would be a candidate for both elected offices.

Harris chuckled in response, saying he only plans to run for one of the two posts. He continues to talk to people in the community about which job to pursue.

Harris' candidacy likely would be in the areas now represented by City Council Member Cynthia Sterling and Supervisor Phil Larson. Sterling represents the southwest Fresno area and Larson represents much of western Fresno County.

Harris was involved in the now-defunct effort to recall Sterling from office last year. City officials said the process never was completed.

Harris is a community activist who has served on the West Fresno School Board and run for a seat on the Fresno County Office of Education.
