arrowFresno mayor at White House

Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin is getting to know her way around Barack Obama's Washington.

On Friday morning, Swearengin and about 60 other mayors will convene in the White House East Room for a 45-minute session with President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. The meeting is part of the U.S. Conference of Mayors regular get-together in D.C.

The White House meeting marks the third time Swearengin has been in Washington over the past month. She was bundled up for the cold of Obama's Jan. 20 inauguration, returned several weeks later with a Fresno County delegation and now is back with her fellow mayors.

With so many mayors present, the Friday morning event that begins at 10:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time is as much about political stagecraft as it is about frank and candid conversation.

Expect talk of the recently passed economic stimulus plan, speculation about what may come next and plenty of mayoral praise about having a friend in the White House.
