Poochigian hasn't ruled out another AG run
Former state Sen. Chuck Poochigian, who lost a bid for state attorney general in 2006, is keeping his options open for another run in 2010.
"I'm not spending a lot of time thinking about it," he said. But, he added: "I haven't ruled it out."
His "Poochigian 2010" campaign account has a balance of $160,584, though the Fresno Republican says he hasn't done any fundraising lately.
"I am enjoying private law practice and my family life," said Poochigian, who works for Dowling, Aaron & Keeler in Fresno. His wife, Debbie, is a Fresno County supervisor.
Poochigian lost in 2006 to former Gov. Jerry Brown. Brown can run for another term in 2010, but is said to be considering a run for governor (again). That would leave the attorney general field wide open for 2010.
On the Republican side, only one other candidate has filed papers -- state Sen. Tom Harman, R-Huntington Beach. Four Democrats are in the running: L.A. City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, who lost in the 2006 primary; San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris; Assembly Member Ted Lieu, D-Torrance; and former Assembly Member Joe Canciamilla, D-Pittsburg.

It looks like Valley state Sen. Dean Florez, D-Shafter, might have some competition in the Democratic primary. State Sen. Alan Lowenthal, D-Long Beach, has filed papers to run.
On the Republican side, state Sen. Jeff Denham, R-Atwater, could have several competitors. Other Reps who've filed papers include state Sen. Sam Aanestad, R-Penn Valley, and former state lawmakers George Plescia, R-La Jolla, and Jim Battin, R-Palm Desert.
Meantime, the race to replace Florez in the state Senate is shaping up to be a classic North Valley vs. South Valley battle between Sarah Reyes, the Fresno Democrat and former Assembly member, and Kern County Supervisor Michael Rubio. Who will Florez endorse? Rubio is a former staffer, but Florez and Reyes are now allies.
So far no one has filed papers to run for the Fresno Assembly seat of Democrat Juan Arambula, who terms out in 2010. But the rumor mill is full of names, including Fresno city council members Blong Xiong, Cynthia Sterling and Henry T. Perea.
Further south, former Assembly Member Bill Maze, R-Visalia, looks like he wants to return to Sacramento. He's filed papers to run for the state Senate seat now held by Roy Ashburn.
Speaking of Ashburn, the Bakersfield Republican has his eye on a seat on the State Board of Equalization.
