arrowLearn about new pollution plan

The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District on Tuesday will discuss a draft plan to clean up fine particle pollution, known as PM-2.5, known to trigger lung and heart problems.

The workshop will be at 6:30 p.m. in the district's headquarters, 1990 E. Gettysburg Ave.

Most of the PM-2.5 problem comes from gases combining to form tiny specks of chemicals and water. The pollution also comes from fireplaces, fuel combustion, vehicle brakes and tires, meat cooking and road dust.

The cleanup plan is expected to be considered by the district board in the next two months. It must show how the Valley will meet the health standard for PM-2.5 by 2014.
