Big names at Court of Appeal dedication
A host of luminaries will converge on Fresno for the dedication Thursday afternoon of the new 5th District Court of Appeal building at Ventura Avenue and O Street.
The 62,000-square-foot, $24 million appellate court will be named after retired Court of Appeal Justice George N. Zenovich and will be the first building in what planners have dubbed Old Armenian Town.
Among those attending will be Chief Justice Ronald George, Attorney General Jerry Brown, representatives and justices from the six appellate courts in the state, as well as district attorneys, local judges and other court officials from the nine counties the new court will serve.
There's a chance that Gov. Schwarzenegger may attend. The governor will be in Fresno later Thursday for a fundraiser at the north Fresno home of businessman Bob Smittcamp.
James Ardaiz, the 5th District Court of Appeal's presiding justice, is expecting more than 400 people at the dedication.
There also will be tours of the building. Employees and justices moved into the building last week.
The 5th District covers Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, Tulare and Tuolumne counties.
