NUP_144681_0733.jpg Most of the interviews I do are done on a strict schedule so there's usually only enough time to hit the serious talking points. I did have enough time with Oscar-nominee David Strathairn to get around to a few superficial questions.

At one point, we end up talking about facial hair. In the original pilot I saw for the new Syfy channel series "Alphas," Strathairn sports a salt-and-pepper beard. He shows up for the interview without the beard and looks 20 years younger.

He says the beard will be gone when the show launches.

"I liked the idea of having the beard because you don't see people on television with a lot of facial hair. Television is a clean environment. What I liked about this show was not only the eccentricities of the characters on the inside but also having some on the outside," Strathairn says.

So why shave?

It was a simple decision. Strathairn shaved the beard off for another role and didn't have time to grow it back before filming started on the cable TV show.

That's something I'd never known with a shorter interview.

So I had this idea awhile ago to do a series of blog posts featuring photos of various Fresnans' car trunks. I thought it would be fun, in a totally voyeuristic kind of way, to see what people carry around in their cars, and to see if my theory -- that really creative people have really creative trunks -- holds up.

The third person featured in the series is Roque "Brodiemash" Rodriguez: blogger, podcaster, star of "Cross Streets" and co-creator of Swede Fest. I asked Roque a couple of questions about himself, and then asked him to show me his trunk.

What's your occupation? I'm a graphic designer.

What's your creative passion? The art of telling a story intrigues me to no end, it just so happens that filmmaking is the medium I choose to use as a vehicle to deliver. I'm a firm believer that everyone has at least one good screenplay in them and if I can play a role in getting that story out of them, then I try my best to facilitate that process. Doing stuff like Swede Fest is something that I've done to do just that and it's also an effort to erase the sense of elitism that seems to permeate the local film community, in a broader sense.

So what's in your trunk?

The second person featured in the series is James Collier: blogger, host of KFSR's "Flavors of the Valley," and creator of TasteFresno, a web site for food enthusiasts. I asked James a couple of questions about himself, and then asked him to show me his trunk.

What's your occupation?
I'm a web marketing guru (ha ha). I own a small, web-focused creative firm called Paprika Studios.

What's your creative passion?
Thinking. I love to brainstorm, and to create ideas, and I enjoy bringing those ideas to life online. For example: TasteFresno.

So, what's in your trunk?

I thought it would be fun, in a totally voyeuristic kind of way, to see what people carry around in their cars, and to see if my theory -- that really creative people have really creative trunks -- holds up.

The first person featured in the series is Adam Wall, blogger, podcaster, and co-creator of Fresno Pub Quiz. I asked Adam a couple of questions about himself, and then asked him to show me his trunk.

What's your occupation? I'm a furniture maker/woodworker.

What's your creative passion? I love building things. The process of taking an abstract idea and forming it into a concrete, usable object is what drives me. I consider myself lucky to get paid to engage that passion.

So, what's in your trunk?
