Fire Training

Firefighters from different counties in around the state were undergoing training exercises at a nearby downtown Fresno warehouse. I was about to leave, thinking I had enough for the daily story, when I turned around to take one last look and saw the afternoon sun cutting through the smoke as the next group of firefighters were entering the building with these really cool thermal imaging cameras. The photo ran inside, black and white, and the printing process really blew out the highlights so I thought I'd post this one to do it final justice.
ERIC P.
Flower Droplets

Join the Bee, See the Valley! We get sent throughout this valley of ours, covering several counties in the process on all types of stories. Some stories are incredible, others simply pay the bills. I was sent out to shoot a real estate sign in a field at an intersection in the middle of Madera County one day. After getting mud caked on my boots and capturing the true essence of the sign, I started back to the home office and saw on the next corner, a home bordered by endless rows of incredible flowers. Roses? Can someone tell me what variety these might be? Really simply amazing, and I'm not usually into flowers at all.
ERIC P. ZAMORA/THE FRESNO BEE

Floating Leaf

Favorite Photos of 2005
I was wandering the bank of the Kings River, nimbly hopping from boulder
to boulder, hoping I wouldn't fall, splashing into the rushing current
which plausibly could sweep me out to the Pacific Ocean ... eventually. As
Christopher Cross' "Sailing" softly played in my head and two waaay too
heavy cameras swung from each shoulder, I was thinking about the world's
problems and the steps and missteps we each take in our lives,
wondering if i could capture an incredible image which reflected my
thoughts, something to which our readers could connect, something which
possibly could change the world in some small miniscule mindbogglingly
important way ... an image which could represent a new day, a new
beginning, maybe even save a life ... oh, heck, i'm just kidding. This
is a cool dead leaf floating in the river.
ERIC P. ZAMORA/THE FRESNO BEE
