vampire.JPG "Vampire Diaries," 8 p.m. KFRE (Channel 59.1): The CW Network hasn't had a lot to brag about this TV season. But this teen angst/vampire series is one positive note. It's one of the few ratings hits for the network. That could have a lot to do with how fans were already primed for a teen vampire series because of "Twilight." "New Moon" fans might find it interesting that tonight's episode features a birthday celebration. Stefan (Paul Wesley) gets a surprise visit from on old friend (Arielle Kebble) to mark the special day. Elena (Nina Dobrev) is upset by Halloween events - and who wouldn't be upset just living in a town full of vampires - so she's trying to stay away from Stefan. Let's see how long that will last. If you have not been watching the series, take a chance and sink your teeth into an episode.

118249_D_0165_pre.jpg The 14th edition of "The Bachelor," this one being called "On the Wings of Love," will begin at 8 p.m. Jan. 4. The task of picking a potential bride - as if that will really happen - goes to Jake Pavelka, a commercial pilot from Dallas. The 31-year-old grew up in Denton, Texas and attended University of North Texas and Embry Engineering University for Aerospace Science.

This is another bite of the love apple as Pavelka and Bachelorette Jillian Harris went to see Martina McBride. That TV dating experience didn't go so well.

The ABC press release for the show says, "Jake's fairytale-like experience falling for Jillian made him confident that he can find the love of his life on 'The Bachelor.' Now it's his time. Jake knows himself well enough to know that he's not made to live alone. He just needs to find the right woman."

Trying to find that right woman in front of millions of TV viewers doesn't seem to be the best way to find true love.

pettitte.JPG "World Series Game Six," 4:57 p.m. KMPH (Channel 26.1): A valiant effort by the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday has pushed the fall baseball classic back to New York. This is the first time the World Series has gone to six games since 2003 when the Florida Marlins beat the Yankees. If Philadelphia wins tonight, it would be the first seven-game World Series since 2002 when the Anaheim Angeles beat the San Francisco Giants. Pitching for the Yankees will be Andy Pettitte while Pedro Martinez will be on the mound for Philadelphia.

Primetime_Emmy_Awards_Photo_Room.JPGMARTIN.JPGThe Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin will co-host this year's Oscar telecast. The 82nd Academy Awards ceremony will be held March 7, 2010.

Martin hosted the show in 2001 and 2003. He earned an Emmy nomination for his first hosting duties. This will be Baldwin's first time as the host of the awards show.

"I don't play the banjo but I'm thrilled to be hosting the Oscars - it's the opportunity of a lifetime," says Baldwin in a press release regarding his selection. He was nominated for an Academy Award in 2003 for his supporting role in "The Cooler."

"I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin," says Martin.

After Martin's embarrassing performances in "Pink Panther" and "Pink Panther II," it is amazing the Academy would even let him get near an Oscar.

v.JPG "V," 8 p.m. KFSN (Channel 30.1): If you are old enough to remember the original science fiction series, the changes for this updated version of "V" will be quite obvious. The new series shows the influences of the 9/11 attacks to create a threat that is much harder to detect that the very military operation in the original. The new version also benefits from advancements in special effects. Acting was an afterthought in the first "V" often reduced to Marc Singer standing around without his shirt. This time the series features solid performances by Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin and Scott Wolf, to name a few. This all goes together to make the new "V" a welcome alien invasion.

avatar.JPG The new James Cameron animated effort "Avatar" is supposed to be one of the biggest movies of the holiday season. It's certainly getting big promotions.

The new trailer for the film, set to open in theaters on Dec. 18, will be shown on the world's largest video display - Cowboy Stadium's Diamond Vision Screen - just before the kickoff of Sunday's game.

Fans who tune in to "Fox NFL Sunday" just before 10 a.m. Sunday on KMPH (Channel 26.1) will be able to see the three minutes and thirty seconds trailer. This will make it the largest live motion picture trailer viewing in history.

Movies
"Where the Wild things Are
WILD.JPG: This big-screen version of the classic children's picture book should not be missed on the big screen. Director Spike Jonze has taken Maurice Sendak's diamond and put it in a cinematic setting that not only underscores the story's simplicity but also presents it in a way that's dazzling and magical. "Where the Wild Things Are" is a treat for all ages.

DVD
"Nothing Like the Holidays":
This is a touch-your-heart warm, make-you-ache funny and cause-you-to-think smart movie about a family's annual reunion for Christmas. While this happens to be a Hispanic family, the themes of this sweet comedy will connect with anyone who has spent even a second with family at a holiday.

Television
NFL RedZone
10 p.m.: Warning! If you watch this condensed version of the NFL games you may never watch football any other way. The cable channel offers constant updates of all of the games being played by switching for all the big plays. And there are no commercial interruptions. This channel is a blessing for anyone who is not a San Francisco 49ers or Oakland Raiders fan since those games are the ones shown locally by the Fox and CBS affiliates. This is the best creation for watching professional football since the invention of the remote control.

whitecollar.JPG "White Collar," 10 p.m. USA Network: It's staggering to believe that NBC and the USA Network are owned by the same company. NBC was barely able to find one good drama this season in "Mercy." The executives at USA just keep adding good shows like this one. Tonight's episode revolves around New York's Fashion Week. The odd crime-solving team of Peter (Tim DeKay) and Neal (Matt Bomer) go into action when advanced technology full of security data is sewn into the fabric of a runway dress. This is a smart and fun series that proves there are good things to watch on TV, just not that many over at NBC.

community.JPG "Community," 8 p.m. KSEE (Channel 24.1): NBC has ordered additional episodes of this new comedy starring Joel McHale and Chevy Chase. That means you will get to see more shows like tonight's that mines humor out of a Day of the Dead party. So far, it's been McHale's dry wit and Chase's physical humor that has been the selling point for the series. Danny Pudi proves with his odd take on Batman he can be just as funny if given more to do. It's good he steps up because the material for Chase's character having a bad drug reaction plays very stale. "Community" is at its funniest when dealing with life at a community college. McHale's character's constant search to find a bed partner is already getting a little old. But, this episode ends up being more treat than trick.

SG-BOB.JPG "Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space," 8 p.m. KSEE (Channel 24.1): This new TV special is based on the very fun feature film "Monsters vs. Aliens" and includes the voices of Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie, Seth Rogen, Kiefer Sutherland and Will Arnet. We join Susan Murphy, a.k.a. Ginormica (Reese Witherspoon) and the Monsters as they are now working as a special ops team for the government. They go into action when an alien presence is detected in Susan's hometown of Modesto. Everything seems normal until Halloween when the innocent-looking carved pumpkins turn out to be mutant aliens. This franchise is worth a look by young and old because of the sharp animation and smart writing.
