GROENING THE GREAT.JPG "Futurama," 10 p.m. Comedy Central: This is both the 100th episode and the sixth season finale of the animated series. The episode, "The Mutants Are Revolting," has Leela leading an army of underground mutants in a revolt against the surface people.

The series follows the life of Philip J. Fry (voiced by Billy West), a pizza delivery boy who falls stumbles into a freezer in 1999 and wakes up a thousand years later. He gets a job working for Planet Express.

When the crew's hired to make a 100th delivery, Bender decides to throw a huge party. The only problem is that while at a fund-raiser, Fry accidentally reveals Leela's a mutant who's illegally living above ground.

Comedy Central revived this series after it had been off the air for almost seven years and it's been a ratings success for the cable channel.

2358_D030_10553_jpg_rgb.JPG Michael Sheen - star of such films as "The Queen" and "Frost/Nixon' - has had a very busy year as a voice actor. First, there was the White Rabbit in Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland." Next up is the direct-to-video release "Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue" where he voices the workaholic Dr. Griffiths.

Although recording the audio for the "Tinker Bell" tale took months of work because the script continued to change, Sheen says voice work's a great job. It's far more appealing to him than his first go around with Peter Pan while growing up in Wales.

"When I was 14, my local youth theater did a production of 'Peter Pan.' I played one of the Lost Boys - the first twin," Sheen says.

That wasn't the hard part. When he wasn't in a scene, Sheen would rush backstage where he would climb to the top of a tall ladder.

"I had to jump off holding a rope," Sheen says. "My body weight would bring it down and that would make Peter Pan fly across the stage. I had a very important role."

Sheen came to that performance not only with enough body weight to send another actor flying but a knowledge of Peter Pan initially through the Disney movie and then the book.

Brazil Avatar.JPG I've seen actors get jealous over the number of lines in a script, automobiles, dogs, wardrobes and even the size of a trailer. When Jamie Lee Curtis shows up to talk about her new movie "You Again," she reveals a whole new Hollywood status symbol.

Before she even sits down, Curtis pulls two items from her purse. One is an action figure toy from the movie "Virus." The other is a much smaller action figure for the movie "Avatar."

"Sigourney Weaver was in the most successful movie of all time and she will tell you that over and over again," Curtis says in a heavily sarcastic tone. "My action figure from the piece of \[expletive deleted\] 'Virus' is bigger than hers. That's all you have to know."

Curtis starred in the 1999 science fiction movie about a crew of an American tugboat that finds an abandoned Russian research vessel. There's an alien life form on board who thinks of the crew as a virus that needs to be destroyed. Weaver, who stars with Curtis in "You Again," is in the biggest movie of all time with "Avatar."

Here's the kicker. Weaver's action figure carries a huge red 50% off sticker. Curtis says she bought her action figure for "$8.96 on eBay."

To be fair, while the action figure is smaller, "Avatar" pulled in more than $750 million at the box office in the United States while "Virus" made $14 million.

121732_5759_pre.jpg The cast has been announced for the next round of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and it looks like the world is running out of celebrities. In one case all it took was to have a politician parent and a baby to get on the show.

"Dancing" starts with a two-hour season premiere at 8 p.m. Sept. 20 on KFSN (Channel 30.1).

Although the odds will change once the partners for these celebrities are announced, here's an early prediction on how the competition will go.

Brandy: Youth and her musical background will make her a strong contender. (5-1)

Kyle Massey: It'll all depend on how seriously the Disney Channel star takes the competition. (9-1)

Florence Henderson: The "Brady Bunch" mom will last longer than any of the past celebrity dancers her age. (10-1).

RM_approved_070.JPG "Rescue Me," 10 p.m. FX Network: It's always amazing to watch the Emmy telecast and realize just how many great shows don't get recognition. If you start making a list of the most under-appreciated programs, this cable series would have to be at the top.

Tonight's season finale visits a recurring theme. The alcoholic, womanizing Tommy (Denis Leary) and Janet (Andrea Roth) are trying to put their marriage back together. Good luck with that. The show's other recurring theme of Tommy's inability to keep promises will play a part in the reconciliation.

This is truly one of the best written, best acted and best shows on TV. Maybe the Emmy voters will recognize that one day.

Those of you who decide to give the show a first look should know that subject matter often is very dark and there are fewer restrictions in language because it's on cable.

Christina Applegate Cancer.JPG Being a TV and movie star isn't always glamorous. There are times when actors are required to do something that is so awful, vile, disgusting, hoard, loathsome and nauseating they begin to question their career choices.

Christina Applegate had such a moment during the filming of the Drew Barrymore-Justin Long romantic comedy "Going the Distance."

Before I go any further, keep in mind while portraying Kelly Bundy on the Fox TV series "Married With Children" for 11 seasons, Applegate got to see plenty of disgusting things but they all paled in comparison to the film moment.

The scene required Applegate to stare at Long's naked rear end that was covered with a fake spray-on tan except for a glowing white hand print.

"I think it was the first day of work," Applegate says.

Director Nanette Burstein kept telling Applegate to stare longer at the exposed area.

"I physically couldn't do it. We almost got into an argument. I told Nanette I'm not looking at it. I'd look at it and want to look away immediately," Applegate says.

She was able to hold her gaze long enough to film the scene but obviously the memory lingers.

NUP_138863_0003.JPG "Dance Your Ass Off," 9 p.m. Oxygen: It'll be revealed tonight if Fresno's Adamme Sosa has beat out two other finalists to be named winner of this season of the cable reality competition show. The episode is the second half of a two-part finale.

The winner takes home $100,000, but Sosa has already shown he's a winner by losing more than 100 pounds. That's a record weight loss for the cable series.

Sosa left Fresno 10 years ago for New York to become performer or makeup artist. His weight increased when he could not find work.

If you want to do more than watch, a virtual viewing party will be available through computers or mobile devices at wap.oxygen.com. For more information on the show's contestants, host, judges, and experts go to dyao.oxygen.com.

Emmy Nominations(2).JPG Clovis East graduate Chris Colfer failed to pick up an Emmy tonight at the "The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards." Colfer lost in the best supporting actor in a comedy series to Eric Stonestreet of "Modern Family."

Colfer earned the Emmy nomination for his first professional acting the flamboyant Kurt Hummel on the Fox series "Glee." The role was created by executive producer Ryan Murphy specifically for Colfer.

Other nominees in his category were: Neil Patrick Harris, "How I Met Your Mother"; Jon Cryer, "Two and a Half Men"; Jesse Tyler Ferguson, "Modern Family"; and Ty Burrell, "Modern Family."

Colfer performed in the opening musical dance number along with Jon Hamm, Joel McHale, Tina Fey, awards show host Jimmy Fallon plus other "Glee" cast members.

118573_D_2345_ful.JPG Here are a few viewing suggestions for the weekend:

TELEVISION
"The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards," 5 p.m. Sunday, KSEE (Channel 24.1): Make sure you notice that this year's awards will be airing live on the West Coast. You don't want to tune in late and miss the best supporting actor in a comedy category that includes Clovis native Chris Colfer.

MOVIES
"Avatar: Special Edition": If you are one of the three people who hasn't seen this film, it's being re-released. The film, that includes nine minutes of new footage, is at the Edwards Fresno Stadium 22 and the Sierra Vista Cinemas 16 in Clovis.

DVD
"Lost: The Complete Sixth and Final Season": Debates started as soon as the finale of this network show aired. Some thought the ending perfectly wrapped up the mysterious network series starring Matthew Fox. Others ended up just being lost. Now you can rewatch the last season and check out all the extras. It will either clear up the debates or start more.
