Do this now! Cast a vote for Fresno

niveacontest.JPG

From time to time we get a rush of locals in the running of various online contests. A big part of success in those contests is rallying the local community. This is where you, awesome Beehive reader, come in.

Below are a couple local folks/orgs who could use your votes today.

  • Bren & Ron are a local couple who are among the five finalists in Nivea’s “Kiss of a Lifetime” contest, which will send the winners to New York City on New Year’s Eve for a magical kiss under the ball drop. Vote for them on Facebook. The contest closes Wednesday and you can vote once per day. They’re in second right now. Let’s give them a last-minute push, OK?
  • Central California Builders Exchange is in the running for a $50,000 grant as part of Pepsi’s ongoing Refresh Project. The voting lasts until Dec. 31. You can vote once per day. According to the builders exchange — a professional organization for the construction industry — the grant would be used to, “help educate and create a qualified work force for generations to come.”
  • Cat House on the Kings — a cat sanctuary and center — is also looking to win $50,000 of Pepsi’s Refresh dollars. The money would be used to buy a building for a new spay and neuter clinic. Vote here.

More on ‘Rocky Horror’

09ttt.jpg

With Christmas upon us, everyone knows that New Year’s Eve isn’t far behind. In Friday’s 7 section I have an interview with Daniel Chavez Jr., who is returning as Frank ‘N’ Furter in “The Rocky Horror Show” at the Tower Theatre. (It plays 8 p.m. Dec. 31 and Jan. 2.) This is substantially the same production that played last year at the Severance Theatre. We’ll be giving away tickets next week on the Beehive, so keep watch. Here’s the full interview with Daniel:

What’s different about this show?

Every showing has slight differences due to the audience participation. There is also some changed choreography, some new looks and some new faces.

What changes did you have to make to adapt to the Tower Theatre?

We changed our set a bit but the biggest change was the perspective. We don’t have audience on every side of us now so staging had to adapt to that.
