Visalia’s Rudy Parris joins Blake Shelton’s team on ‘The Voice’

Visalia singer/guitarist Rudy Parris is in the national spotlight today after a successful stint on NBC’s “The Voice” on Monday night. Parris passed the show’s blind auditions and eventually picked country singer Blake Shelton as his coach. You can watch his performance and the judges’ reaction below.

Here’s the pre-song bio segment on Rudy, which gives you more his story.

Fueled by the national TV appearance, his rendition of “Every Breath You Take” is doing well on iTunes this morning.

UPDATE: I talked to Rudy a few minutes ago and he said everything has been overwhelming since Monday night’s performance.

“It’s very, very surreal — especially since I haven’t been to sleep yet,” he said, as most people were eating lunch. “That multiplies it by 10. I feel like I’m dreaming.”

He says he literally was up all night answering e-mails, phone calls and text messages.

“People are so excited,” said Parris, 46, talking especially about people here in the central San Joaquin Valley. “I’m really touched by the thousands upon thousands of people who are supporting me. There are entire households and families that are really into what I’m doing. They’re full of pride that I’ve, so to speak, put Visalia and the Valley on the map.”

I loved the performance from Rudy Parris and I think he has a good chance on The Voice. I loved his performance and I can’t wait to see more. Another great thing about this show’s its part of my primetime recordings so I can watch it commercial free. The Hopper DVR lets you skip commercials using the Auto Hop feature. Having this option means I don’t have to manually fast forward through all those commercials when I watch my PrimeTime Anytime shows. One of my coworkers at DISH showed me how it works and how I can skip commercials. I can use this cool feature a day after my shows have recorded for an enhanced experience. This will save some wear and tear on my remote with all the fast forwarding I do.
