Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

Besides taking advantage of Restaurant Week.

1. FROLIC FIERCELY AND FREELY ON FULTON MALL
Saturday’s Fierce Creatures album release party on the Fulton Mall is looking to be the local music event of the summer. It’s a festival with 10 bands total — including local faves such as Strange Vine and Quiet Americans, plus quality out-of-towners like The Silent Comedy. It’s also free and all ages, with a beer garden plus food from Dusty Buns, Keith’s Box Car Cafe and others. You might want to also check out this story from today’s Fresno Bee or my podcast with Fierce Creatures. [More]

2. DOWN A KUPPAJOE
Tonight’s show at all-ages venue Kuppajoe is the perfect appetizer for the big Fierce Creatures party. San Jose’s Picture Atlantic headlines. They’ve been here numerous times and have a nice following. The band to watch, though, is Conveyor, a Brooklyn-based band that is labelmates with Fierce Creatures and who has been playing shows with them elsewhere in the state this week. Add local fave Sahab and a couple other bands, and it’s another great night of music. [More]

3. GET SOME MO LAUGHS
Comedian Mo Collins, she of “MADtv” and “Parks & Rec” fame, makes her first ever trip to Fresno for a show tonight at Club One Casino. She’s joined by Rebecca Corry. Read my Q & A with Collins to get warmed up. [More]

4. CHILL FROM 93 ‘TIL INFINITY
Bay Area indie hip-hop collective Hieroglyphics brings its Hiero Imperium tour to Fulton 55 tonight. The show features Souls of Mischief, Casual and Pep Love. Pardon me while I go listen to “93 ‘Til Infinity” now. [Tickets]

5. PUT SOME PECHA IN YOUR KUCHA
I’m off Monday, so I’m extending this out a little bit and giving you a Monday option: Pecha Kucha Night. This favorite of the local creative community is music themed this time around, so some of y’all might be particularly interested. For the uninitiated, Pecha Kucha is creative show-and-tell where the presents showers 20 slides in 20 seconds. [More]

For the Fierce Creatures show, any info available on what time each band will be playing? I can’t be there for the whole time (4pm til whenever it ends), but theres at least 3 or 4 bands other than F.C. that I dont’ want to miss!

Mike Oz says:

It’s not out yet, as I’ve seen.
I’d read that the sked will be posted at some point.
