In addition to not being a hater.
1. SPIT RHYMES WITH THE KNUX
Alt-hip-hop dudes The Knux return to Audie’s Olympic on Sunday night. They’re a bit atypical in that they, ya know, play instruments and stuff. Here’s a good example of their sound. [More]
2. SHOW THE LOCALS SOME LOVE
Two jam-packed local shows to choose from tonight. Fulton 55 has an eclectic evening with 40 Watt Hype, Sahab and Clouded Vision, while Starline has the more in-your-face Local 13, Grooveyard and Republik.
3. SEE SOME WRASSLIN’
I, like many of us who grew up in the ’80s, have a soft spot in my heart for pro wrestling. It’s why I see something like Saturday’s California Cup — an eight-man single elimination tournament at the Fresno Fairgrounds — and think of the good ol’ days of the Macho Man. This is more indie wrestling, but here’s hoping someone delivers an elbow off the top rope. [Tickets]
4. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT ‘STACHE
The Fresno Beard and Mustache Club is having its three-year anniversary party Saturday night at Audie’s Olympic, starring the vintagey soulful sounds of Gayle & the Bowties and others. Get a dollar off cover with a beard or mustache, real or fake. [More]
5. SEE A TRIBUTE BAND
Yeah, yeah, tribute bands, we all ‘em all the time these days. But this weekend’s selections are interesting in that they’re straight-outta-the-90s. See a faux Nirvana — ahem, Nearvana, well played, guys — or a Stone Temple Pilots tribute with ex-Fresnan Shawn Barry in it. [Tix | Tix]
