Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

In addition to watching the daredevil dude jump all those semi-trucks at the Spokes ‘N’ Rods festival, seeing the new offering from Woodward Shakespearse Festival or getting risque with Fresno Filmworks .

1. GO TO A PARTY FIT FOR ROYALTY
The Soulflower Group hosts its popular annual Prince tribute at Audie’s Olympic on Saturday. It features a handful of DJs dipping into their stashes to play Prince gems. A movie will shown and, if I know The Soulflower Group, there’s some more cool stuff planned too. [More]

2. EAT WHAT THE MEN ARE SERVING UP
Saturday is the annual Men Who Cook fund-raising event at Fresno Art Museum. It’s a good chance to sample a variety of cuisine prepared by different local dudes.. You can also say hi to me. I’ll be there with my Bee cohorts Rick Bentley and Ron Orozco serving up something sweet and delicious. [Tickets]

3. MAKE A CASE FOR PETER
Veteran singer/songwriter Peter Case headlines Audie’s tonight. He’s had a long and memorable career including stints in The Plimsouls and The Nerves. He’s not a household name, but the people who are into him are PSYCHED about this show tonight. [More]

4. PARTY LIKE A BRAZILIAN
Arte Americas hosts the Music of Brazil showcase tonight as part of its weekly Nights in the Plaza concert series. It’s curated by beloved local musician Eva Scow, whose own band Espacio is playing along with a few artists she chose. Arte’s outdoor plaza is also a great place to see a show on a summer night. 5. GO BACK IN TIME
Two newish local bands share the bill of what should be a good show at Starline on Saturday night. They are Back in the Valley and Gayle and the Bowties (making their first post-Rogue Festival appearance). Both have a “throwback” appeal to them — Back in the Valley plays classic country/Americana while Gayle and the Bowties plays old soul music. [More]

i heard stephen mintz is doing comedy @ the back in the valley/gayle & the bowties show (although i’m not sure if that was for reals.)

Stephen says:

Aw, thanks Ed, but!

It was just a mis-typo by Abigail on the event page. I shall only be there to listen to Gayle and her boytoys, and I expect it’ll be a pretty full show, since she sold out all 4 performances at Rogue. They’re terrific.
