In addition to — long list ahead — the Fresno Rainbow Pride Parade and Festival, the “Firefall” premiere, Bei Maejor’s show tonight, Saturday’s walking tour of downtown and a conversation with the authors of that controversial new book about the Valley.
1. BOOZE IT UP
It’s going to be hot this weekend. You can get all angry about it and whine on Twitter. Or you can go drink and be merry. Saturday is the first ever Fresno Tequila and Mezcal Expo and Sunday is the annual Celebration of Wine — it’s year No. 30, actually. And if you’re hungry, consider the Serbian Food Festival. They all beat bitchin’ about the heat.
2. GO TO THE PLAYAZ CLUB
True story, someone asked me earlier this week what happened to Rappin’ 4-Tay. Ya know, the dude who did that song “Playaz Club.” I responded, 100% serious: He’s performing in Fresno on Friday night. And he is. Catch 4-Tay tonight at Audie’s Olympic with The General Populus, Chuck Dimes and Benni Boom.
3.OVERDOSE ON THE FREESTYLE ERA
Saturday’s music choices represent a variety of musical eras, one of which is the freestyle movement of the late ’80s and early ’90s. You know you still dance to freestyle music in your room when nobody’s watching. The concert — organized by Mega 97.9 – features a number of top freestyle artists playing at the Rotary Amphitheatre at Woodward Park, including Stevie B, who is considered the king of the genre, Lisa Lisa and Expose. Sadly, no love for Fresno’s own Timmy T, though. [More]
5. GET DIRTY AND ROTTEN
Eighties metal dudes, we didn’t forget about you. Go see thrash metal pioneers D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) playing Saturday night at Babylon Club. Go see how crazy these ’80s dude can still get. [Tickets]
