1. THE FORCE IS STRONG WITH THIS ONE
I’ve been talking about it for a while, but it’s finally here: The Star Wars Pub Crawl in the Tower District to celebrate May 4 (aka May the Fourth Be With You). Ten different bars are in, with signature drinks, games and contests. The whole thing starts at 7:30 p.m. with a gathering of Jedis, Sith, wookies, etc., in the parking lot behind Livingstone’s. Read my column from The Bee for more info. [Info]
2. CELEBRATE CINCO DE MAYO
Cinco De Mayo is Saturday, but c’mon, this is Fresno, you know we’re partying the entire weekend. The big annual Cinco De Mayo festival on the Fulton Mall starts up today (I say go for the tacos alone) and runs through Sunday. There’s also the Cinco De Mega concert with Morris Day & The Time, plus a variety of other parties that fit the theme. Read more in this Bee story, see fliers below.
3. GET TATTED
The other big downtown festival this weekend is the annual Fresno Tattoo Expo, which rallies tattoo enthusiasts for two days of ink, tattoo-inspired goods and contests, music, art, bike and car shows and more. It’s happening Saturday and Sunday at the Fresno Convention Center. [More]
4. SEE WHAT’S BREWING WITH SAHAB
Check out the sonic awesomesauce of local indie/electro singer Sahab, who has a Saturday night gig at the equally cool Fresno Brewing Co. on the Fulton Mall. Recently in Sahab-land, he put out a new remix of “Dastaneh Layli O Majnun,” that you can have 100% for free. [More]
5. HELP A PEDICABBER OUT
Local musicians unite to raise money on Sunday for local pedicab driver Jeff MacDonald, who was injured earlier in the month when he was run down by a car.
The driver of the car has been arrested and charged, but MacDonald — a fixture in the Tower District — is still ailing. So the concert at Audie’s Olympic, 1426 N. Van Ness Ave., will raise money for him and his passenger at the time of the accident. There’s a bike ride (at 1 p.m.) that precedes the music. [More]
