Five Things You Should Do This Weekend
In addition to the stuff we’ve already told you about: NOtown Roller Derby, Creative Fresno’s weekend events and the Fresno Film Festival.
1. HELP MICHAEL KEENEY
Local music vet Michael Keeney was injured pretty bad in March in a skateboarding accident. He had a compound fracture and broke his leg in two places. Ouch! Tonight, the local music scene is chipping in to raise money for him with a big genre-jumping show at Fulton 55. Good cause aside, that’s a lot of good local music. Add the cause, and that’s a good way to spend $10. [Tickets]
2. SAY YEE-HAW IN CLOVIS
The 98th annual Clovis Rodeo is already under way. So put on your boots and hat, cowboys and cowgirls, and get out there before Sunday. There are a number of events beyond just the rodeo itself — like the parade Saturday morning, tonight’s concert with Justin Moore and Saturday night’s rodeo dance. Get all the info and tickets on the Clovis Rodeo site. [More]
3. TAKE A GULP OF A SPRINGTINI
If you’re into that sorta thing — and lots of people are — Saturday is the annual Springtini, one of Fresno’s biggest spring social events. On the menu: signature cocktails, a runway fashion show, live music from 40 Watt Hype, mixes from DJ Special K and plenty of people-watching. [More]
4. SWING WITH MONKEY
Ska vets Monkey headline Audie’s Olympic tonight with a strong local bill that includes King Sugar and very-busy-lately Checkered Past. It’s gonna be bananas. Yeah, you see what I did there? [More]
5. CALIFORNIA LOVE FEST
I must admit, I was a bit disappointed when I realized that Hologram Tupac wasn’t headlining the California Love Fest on Saturday at Chinatown Youth Center. But that’s OK. If you’re into the young hardcore/punk/metal scene, this one is a big deal, with bands spanning the entire state. [More]

Suprised there was no mention of the 23rd Annual Tulare County Renaissance Festival in Visalia this weekend. Was thinking of checking it out. http://www.stmortimer.org/
