Lots to do this weekend. It’s hard to pick just five. A shout out is also due to local bands Poor Man’s Poison and Motel Drive for becoming the first local bands to sell out Hanford Fox Theatre for their Saturday night show.
1. LAISSEZ LES BONS TEMPS ROULER
It’s Mardi Gras time! Sunday is the Tower District is Fresno’s annual parade. The rest of the afternoon should be filled with happenings in Fresno’s most happenin’ part of town. You can catch tunes at Audie’s Olympic (Dusty Buns will be out there too!) or party it up at Starline later in the night.
2. GO TO AUDIE’S — ONCE, TWICE, THREE TIMES?
The aforementioned Audie’s Olympic has a gold-medal weekend scheduled. Nice multi-genre local show tonight (old time string music, indie rock AND punk?), indie rock on Saturday night with Saint Motel and psychedelic rock on Sunday with Howlin’ Rain, etc. Remember, you can still win tickets to Sunday’s Howlin Rain show from us.
3. VISIT GARDENS & VISALIA
SoCal indie band Gardens & Villa are in Visalia on Saturday night, playing The Cellar Door at 8 p.m. They’re also headed to the uber-cool Coachella festival in the coming months — so be uber-cooler and see them in a small club for $7. Here’s a great song of theirs.
4. BE CHARMED WITH MORRISSEY COVERS
This Charming Band — the popular Morrissey/Smiths tribute band that’s sold out Audie’s a few times — returns to Fresno to play at some bigger digs. Catch ‘em at Fulton 55 on Saturday night.
5. SLAM SOME POETS
Had enough music? How about some poetry? Tonight is another installment of the Beat Down Slam at Teazer’s World Tea Market’s downtown location. Ten poets will compete and the audience will decide who is the most slamtastic.
SHOUT IT OUT IN THE COMMENTS.
