2012 Look Ahead: What are you most anticipating?
Welcome to 2012. We’ve got a new year that’s pretty much all ahead of us. That means new things to look forward to. So we figured we’d continue in the fashion of our 2011 Rewind series and talk about what we’re looking forward to in 2012.
It could be anything — either related to Fresno or a big pop culture event that’s already circled on your calendar. In short: What’s can’t you wait for this year? Check out our picks and chime in with yours.
HEATHER: Locally, I’m really looking forward to enjoying a glass of wine at the newly opened Pinot Wine Bar and Bistro in the Tower District. I got a chance to sample some of the wines and appetizers during the wine-and-tapas joint’s soft opening in December, and since then I’ve been looking forward to going back. Cool, low-key and reasonably priced, Pinot Wine Bar is the perfect place to grab a glass of wine or beer and a light snack before heading to an event at the Tower Theatre.
KATHY: I can’t wait for the March 23 release of “The Hunger Games” movie. I absolutely LOVED the book by Suzanne Collins, and I encouraged everyone I know to read it (including Donald Munro). If this trailer is any indication, I think this film will live up to my expectations.
.
DONALD: I loved the Broadway musical “Next to Normal” so much that I saw it twice — once in its Off-Broadway incarnation and once when it made it to the Great White Way. This tale of a woman grappling with mental illness pushes the boundaries of what a musical can be, and the music (by Tom Kitt) and book and lyrics (by Brian Yorkey) envelop you in an emotional wallop of a storyline. Joel Abels and StageWorks Fresno tackle the show July 13.
MIKE OZ: As a Kanye West fanboy, I have to give a nod to the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music album. G.O.O.D. Music is Kanye’s stable of artists — people such as John Legend, Common, Kid Cudi, Pusha T, etc. They’re doing an album as a team. Kanye is best when he’s playing maestro and bringing other talented people together, so I have high hopes for this.

The thing that most excites me for 2012 is the potential for tons of new local music. There is a number of new projects that have work that will be released this year. Keep an eye out for these names BLOODS, WEREBEAR, CLOUD TURO, COINS, DEATHWOUND and two more with no official names which we’ll call KOOLEIDOSCOPE and EMERALD for now.
This next one is very bias, but I am very exited about it, my first solo ep as MACONDO which will also be out this year.
Non-music related: My potential return to the central valley tops it off.
TDK Rises – the last/final Batman movie by Nolan = EPIC!
I am anxious to go to Pinot and hopefully will make it there next week. Martin is an awesome chef and I miss his cooking.
I’m with Heather on this one. The Hunger Games is going to be an amazing movie. I couldn’t finish the book fast enough. I’m really glad they cast Jennifer Lawrence to play Katniss.
I already found something I was NOT anticipating at all – it just surprised me.
I am loving (so far) the Tower Sports Club (awful name), the new swanky-looking but very tower fabulous bar next to Twee, Frosted Cakery and the Hashtag. The owners of Zapps just opened it, and I think they’re hoping for big-screen TVs behind the bar but I hope they don’t do it – the place is really artfully decorated and surprisingly large – great pool table in the back, comfy chairs up front, me likey!
