UPDATE II: For those of you landing here from a Google search — the concert is on. All details right here.
Nothing official yet from Save Mart Center confirming the show. It’s not even on Drizzy’s website. So be cautiously optimistic, Drake fans.
More info when I get it.
The big reality-check of the week: Nobody has any details and only a radio station is saying this is true.
Lots of people have been asking me whether Drake is coming. I haven’t been able to confirm anything tangible. At this point, let’s just categorize the possibility of a Fresno date with Drake as “likely with a side of skepticism.” But it looks like Dec. 2 might the date — if it does happen.
Here’s the chain of events, as they’ve unfolded:
- B95 announced on the air Wednesday and online that Drake was coming to Save Mart Center. The arena, meanwhile, said the date “wasn’t on the radar.” A little while later the blog post announcing the show had been removed. For what it’s worth: It’s not uncommon for Save Mart Center to be sheepish about shows that it hasn’t announced yet.
- As the day went on: I reached out to Drake’s publicist, concert promoter Live Nation and asked Save Mart Center repeatedly and got no response. Meanwhile, Drake’s site and tour schedule shows no indication of a Fresno date.
- Thursday gave us lots of online chatter about the possible show, but no actual about a date or tickets or anything of that nature.
- The hip-hop blogs started reporting a new Drake tour this afternoon — without a Fresno date. I reached out again to Drake’s publicist this afternoon and she said: “I have been in touch with Drake’s agent and will have an answer for you shortly regarding the December 2nd show in Fresno.” So that sounds like it’s happening, right?
So is Drake coming to Fresno? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what unfolds next. But fans of the former Degrassi star turned rap heartthrob would be wise to keep Dec. 2 clear.
