Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

… Other than all that other stuff I already told you about.

1. BE A BARBARIAN
Audie’s Olympic hosts a great lineup of indie rock bands tonight, in what promises to be a packed show. We Barbarians headline, and if you dig bands like Cold War Kids and The Walkmen, you’ll like them. Florida duo ANR, which gets a lot of MGMT comparisons, joins, as does local faves Strange Vine. We Barbarians sold out Audie’s earlier this year. With a new EP getting rave reviews, the show should be even bigger this time around. So get there early. [info]

2. GET BLAZED
Rockin’ radio station 105.1 The Blaze takes over Regional Sports Complex all day Saturday for its Blaze Fest. It’s an on-the-green concert with rock from the ’70s to the ’90s — Cheap Trick, Tesla, Everclear and Candlebox. Playmate of the Year Claire Sinclair is the “mistress of ceremonies, and it’s a good chance to see what the big ol’ sports complex could be like a concert venue. [more]

3. WATCH MURDER AND DEATH
Murder by Death — playing at The Cellar Door in Visalia tonight — certainly sounds like a hardcore rock group, if you’re going off name alone. It’s actually quite the eclectic group — mixing indie rock with Gothic/western influences. “Old West murder ballads” is one way the band’s sound has been described. We’re talking a cello and accordion in the mix. Sound good? Of course it does. [tix]

4. REMEMBER ‘THE WHITE ALBUM’
Fresno’s own Beatles tributeteers The Beetles are playing “The White Album” tonight at Fulton 55. Seeing as how The Beatles aren’t coming here anytime soon, that might be a good place to be, Beatles Fan. [tix]

5. DON’T STOP ‘TIL YOU GET ENOUGH
The last one was great fun, so I totally recommend the Soulful Sundays Michael Jackson tribute happening at Veni Vidi Vici. It’s pretty much the perfect idea — a Sunday brunch on the lovely Venis patio with DJs spinning. And MJ tunes? Can’t go wrong. The $15 cover includes brunch and mimosas/sangria until 1:30 p.m. [info]

Hello other Jason!

Always so much cool stuff going on in Fresburg. Thanks for mentioning the Beetles show here and in print. Here’s to a town that can support *all* this stuff!

Glad to see #2 (Blazefest) mentioned. But surprised there was no mention of the 37th annual Clovisfest – Arts & Crafts Event (w/Hot Air Balloons) this weekend ~ http://www.clovischamber.com/events/ClovisFEST.aspx
