Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

Note: I’m off work today, so I’m not doing a Post No Bills today. Enjoy these weekend options. Post No Bills will return next week. Last week’s edition still has plenty of options for this weekend, if you need ‘em.

1. HAVE A BIG LAUGH
Good weekend for comedy ahead of us. Daniel Tosh, of “Tosh.0″ fame, is doing two shows tonight at Saroyan Theatre. The first show is sold out, but the 10 p.m. show still has tickets available. If you’re looking for something with a local angle: Darren Carter, the most famous comedian to come outta Fresno, returns for a homecoming gig at Tower Theatre on Saturday. [Tix / Tix]

2. WITNESS THE DEBUT OF TWILIGHT PARK
We talked a lot earlier this week about the Woodlake’s Twilight Park and its potential as an outdoor concert venue. Now it’s time to see what it can do. Tonight is its first concert, with bad-boy country duo Montgomery Gentry. Tickets cost $15 for the lawn seating and $20 for reserved seats. [Tickets]

3. SEE WHAT’S LONG OVERDUE
Tonight’s a new attempt at putting together the big Fresno creative mixer. It’s happening at Fulton 55, pooling together musicians, artists, designers, photographers, etc. Fresno Famous has a nice write-up on it. Read that for a better feel. In a just-announced “surprise” performance, Fashawn is hitting stage with his band, The Samsonites, as a Rock the Bells warm-up. [Info]

4. GET FRISKY WITH DJ BRADLEY
Veteran of the local house scene DJ Bradley makes a semi-rare local appearance to play at tonight’s Frisky party with DJ P-Rez at Veni Vidi Vici. In addition to what promises to be a great night of music, it’s also my favorite flier of the weekend. [Info]

5. REMEMBER STEVE DANIELS
Steve Daniels — the beloved Circus Bogus drummer whose murder rattled the local music community in 1996 — will be remembered Saturday night in a memorial at Audie’s Olympic. Today would have been his 45th birthday. Daniels was also a member of S.A.D. Boys and Harsh Reality. Members from all three bands will be there to show their love and other local musicians will be covering some of his music. Read this for more. [Info]

Stephen says:

Veni’s is in trouble tonight…that’s gonna be a HUGELY packed show. Even the Fulton 55 crowd will head over to Veni’s after they close down.

Wow.

Haven’t heard a peep about the Steve Daniels investigation in forever. Back in the day other musicians used to say “Oh, everyone knows who did it…but nobody will tell…”

Wonder how much of that is/was true. Tribute is a great idea, tho.
