Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

While you’re not jaywalking

1. SEE REGGAE ROYALTY
The Wailers — you know, they played with that dude Bob Marley, perhaps you’ve heard of him? — headline Tower Theatre on Sunday. It’s a special matinee show, starting at 3 p.m., with a number of local acts starting things off, peeps like Patrick Contreras and More Than Without. [Tickets]

2. DON’T WORRY — IT’LL GROW BACK
Punk vets (and blogosphere faves) It’ll Grow Back have their record release party tonight at Tokyo Garden. For real — a record release, a 7-inch titled “Warps Your Mind.” These guys are totally old-school punks, meaning they can play at least 15 songs in a half-hour set, and do it plenty loud and plenty sweaty. To make the evening extra artsy, they’ve teamed with Hide & Seek Gallery. More in this Artist You Should Know Q & A. [Info]

3. PUT THE IAN IN COMEDIAN
L.A. comic Ian Edwards stops in Fresno for two shows on Saturday night at Starline. He’s an up-and-comer, and his writing credits include that new “In the Flow” show on Fox and Kevin Hart’s recent BET awards jokes. What I’ve seen on YouTube of this guy is laughs. Likewise, the local comics are pretty excited about this one. [Tickets]

4. WITNESS THE MEXICO-FRESNO CONNECTION
Can’t beat free music, right? Tonight’s offering at Fulton 55 is actually worth at least a ten-spot, but it’s free nonetheless. It’s the annual Binational Rock Concert put on by local Consulate of Mexico and it features a Mexican band coming here to share the stage with a few local groups. In this case, it’s Mexican alt-rock band Torreblanca headlining with Distrito Torre and The Burners representing Fresno. If you missed it yesterday, we posted some good tunes by The Burners. [Info]

5. RE-LIVE YOUR ‘GLORY DAYS’
A little theater creeping in here? Sure, why not? In “Glory Days” — playing through the weekend at The Voice Shop — there’s a strong musical element, as it’s a modern pop/rock type show, with a live band. Tonight’s performance is actually “cabaret night,”so those of you who are more into music should enjoy that since it’s kinda like musical theater karaoke (promo video below). If you missed the review — Donald Munro sang praises for “Glory Days.” [Info]
