Five Things You Should Do This Weekend
Other than pushing it with Salt ‘N’ Pepa at the Kings Fair …
1. GO SEE THE CIRCUS
Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey makes its annual stop at Selland Arena. You have seven chances to see The Greatest Show on Earth — one tonight, and three shows on both Saturday and Sunday. [Tickets]
2. EXPLORE FRESNO’S HARDCORE/PUNK SCENE
Speaking of annual events: Saturday is the 7th Fresno Fest — a 20-band sampler of our local punk, metal and hardcore scene at Chinatown Youth Center, aimed mostly at the younger all-ages crowd. At $5, it’s certainly a good bargain. [Read more]
3. SWING WITH SOME ALIENS
Nineties L.A. swing band Alien Fashion Show is having a reunion gig at Starline on Saturday night. In its heyday, the band played with the likes of Brian Setzer and was getting radio spins for its single “Rocket 95.” Two members of the band — brothers Eldon and Jeff Daetweiler — call Fresno home nowadays. [Tickets]
4. HANG WITH BUSTER, HARRY AND PARKER
Busy Saturday night for the Fresno Grizzlies this week. It’s the make-up date for their rained-out Buster Posey Bobblehead Night (first 2,000 fans get one, so don’t lag) and Harry Potter night, which promises Potter-themed jerseys and all sorts of fun from the land of Hogwarts. [Tickets]
5. A NOT-SO-SILENT NIGHT
Piano-driven British rock band A Silent Film arrives Sunday at Fulton 55. They’ve been compared favorably to Snow Patrol and Coldplay, and they’ve played with One Republic. Give ‘em a listen below. [Tickets]
BONUS
Get fresh yums at Fresno State’s annual Farm Festival. [More info]
