Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

When you’re not stalking Meg Whitman and Jerry Brown during their Fresno visit

1. GET A TASTE OF ELY GUERRA
I’m super intrigued by Saturday’s performance by Ely Guerra at Audie’s Olympic. Guerra is a Mexican singer/songwriter whose music has enough appeal to crossover to the indie rock kids that Love the Captive usually brings out to its shows. Guerra’s a star, no doubt (check out this recent NY Daily News profile) but I have to wonder if Fresno’s gonna show up for this one. Hope so.

2. ROCK WITH SOME SWEDES
Swedish hard rockers Vains of Jenna hit Fresno tonight for a gig at Starline. Even though they’re Europeans, these guys have some of that hard rock sleeze that Fresno likes. They’ve played with folks like Poison and GWAR in the past. Tonight they’re joined by Fresno’s own young sleeze rock group Shiver Fox. More at americanmadeconcerts.com.

3. DOWNTOWN GOES ‘FIRST CLASS’
There’s some new life at Chukchansi Park this weekend, as “First Class Fridays” debuts inside the 600 Club. This is not to replace The Penthouse, which is still going on Saturday nights, just a new Friday night party in the same space. What do you guys think?

4. CHECK OUT THE ‘HEART’ OF DOWNTOWN
Tonight, Iron Bird Cafe hosts a music and poetry night called “Heart of the City,” which may or may not be a good pre-party for “First Class Fridays.” Either way, it’s nice to see new cultural events popping up downtown.

5. PAINT THE NIGHT
One common thread this weekend is evening art parties — there’s a benefit event for DCAC, Red Wave Tattoo and Art Gallery’s anniversary party and an art carnival that goes until 3 a.m. Yep, the art folks are partying like crazy this weekend.

We are FINALLY opening on First/Nees in Fresno. This saturday-31st 9am-10pm daily. With admission of just $1 to cover security we will have a haunted attraction (only one of it’s kind in the U.S.), rides, games, local food vendors, live music on the weekends, Monday night foot ball hosted by DirectTV, birthday parties, field trips, story afternoons, and a Halloween Express on site for costume needs.

At first glance, I thought the Ely Guerra poster was a Macys ad.

“Welcome to my World” Music, Sports & More with D4D Productions, New Rock 104.1 and 95.7 The Fox Saturday & Sunday inside the mall. Former Raiders Ben Davidson will be there each afternoon starting at 1pm to sign autographs and talk football. I love talking football with a pro player. Great insight to the game.

You can even give blood on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm outside of Round Table Pizza.

Also Saturday Night, Powell’s Sweet Shoppe has their annual FREE movie night at the Community Park. “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” will show at dusk. Bring the kids early and the Clovis Police Explorers will be out there with free Kid ID kits and taking finger prints. Lots of games and prizes too.

Check our website for more details.

Few comments: Okay, The Patch Fresno really needs to explain better what the heck that attraction is…cuz that little paragraph leaves me wondering.

2. I ain’t attending or telling anyone to attend CRAP that “Jaurique” is putting on. Changing the name from Rick Mirigian to Jau-Rique ain’t fooling me. No money to go in his pocket, ever.

3. I will be at the long-awaited return of the Mo-Fo Party Band at Starline on Saturday! Don’t have the flyer, don’t have details, just know it’s there and doors are at 9pm.

Cori says:

And lets not forget Trey Tosh, who will also be playing, as well as The Mofo Party Band at The Starline tomorrow night for the annual Livestrong event, benefitting cancer research.

Dustin & Kristin says:

Late Night Art parties look fun! We hear great things about Iron Bird Cafe, the Swedes & Shiver Fox promises an exiting crowd:)! Check out Dusty Buns Bistro Bus @ Engelmann Cellars this Saturday from 11:am to 6 pm. Our food, their wine… Good times! Fresno Wine Journey info at www. Fresnowines.com. THANKS

stephen,

I am putting on the event by myself with my own funds and people. If you would like to meet me I can assure you I am not Rick Mirigian.
Better yet come out tonight so we can meet each other, For free so your money stays in your pocket. I will even buy you drinks.

I could bash starline but that isnt what I do. Please support your local people not bash them. You will lose credibility.

again please do not bash me, my last name or what I do.

RIcardo G says:

Ely Guerra?? Are you kidding me?? She’s performed with the likes of “La Ley” and many other greats! Even if I am the only person there I will DEFINITELY be there.

ed says:

isn’t day of the, you know, like 29 days away from that final event advertised?

Jenn says:

The Pumpkin Patch place is NOT open today..I just tried to take my family. Now I have a very sad little girl. Thank goodness for Cobbs Ranch!

Jenn says:

Update: Cobbs Ranch is NOT open.
