While you remember not to jaywalk …
1. GET FOXY
The boys from Shiver Fox are having their big CD release bash Saturday night at Tower Theatre. If you like vintage rock with a raucous twist, you’ll like these guys. They’re definitely a local band on the movie, so check ‘em out. Read more in today’s music roundup.
2. GET SOME TASTY FREE MUSIC
In the still-going Fresno burger war, Eureka!Burger has something its competition does not — a free Saturday night music festival. And, for something that’s free, it’s got some great local talent. Patrick Contreras, Strange Vine and Say Swear are all performing, as are Inspired Flight and Audible Mainframe from SoCal. Did we mention free? The food, however, is not free.
3. LEARN A THING OR TWO ABOUT VANESSA
Singer/songwriter Vanessa Vasquez is releasing her long-time-in-the-making debut CD, “Lessons Learned,” with a show tonight at Frank’s Place. She’s got an enchanting folk/pop sound that you should give a try if you dig artists like Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan. (her website is pretty cool too). Read more about Vasquez and her new CD in this Artist You Should Know profile.
4. PLAY HIDE & SEEK WITH ART
So this is really cool — Hide & Seek Gallery is having its first “pop up show” on Saturday. It’s a called a pop-up show because its held in a random space that becomes an art gallery for just one night. The Hide & Seek name makes a lot more sense now, huh? The first show is with ex-Fresnan Ronald Dzerigian. Read a recent interview with him here.
5. BE A BAD SEED
Tomorrows Bad Seeds are a reggae/rock band that just got off the Vans Warped Tour and are in Fresno on Saturday night to headline Babylon. This SoCal band’s sound has been described as “where the streets meet the beach.” So be ready to get your ass kicked in flip-flops.
