While saying hello to August (already?!?) …
1. LAUGH IT UP
In today’s Bee, I put together a big ol’ guide to the stand-up comedy scene in Fresno. It lists all the various comedy nights in town (weekly, monthly, etc.) So if you read it and wanna get out there to yuck it up immediately, you have three options this weekend.
2. GO OUT ON A LIMB
SoCal indie/pop band The New Limb heads back into Fresno on Saturday for a show over at Neighborhood Cafe. They recently won best indie rock band in the O.C. Music Awards. Give ‘em a listen here.
3. CELEBRATE THE MALL
There’s a Grand Party to celebrate the Fulton Mall on Saturday afternoon. It’s put on by the folks behind the Save the Fulton Mall Facebook page. The shindig is in honor of the page toppling the 1,000+ mark. It’ll have live music, poetry plus a big emphasis on the mall’s history, art, architecture and landscaping.
4. SEE THE ODDEST MIX OF THE WEEKEND: BULLYS and BURLESQUE
Fresno Bully Rescue — which promotes responsible ownership of pitbulls and finds foster homes for abused ones — is having its two-year anniversary party on Saturday. And it’s doing it with burlesque dancers! Win all around.
5. BE STRANGE AND FOXY
An epic pairing in Visalia Saturday night for those of you who like that new classic rock sound. Fresno’s Strange Vine heads down for their South Valley CD release and they’re joined by the boys of The Stone Foxes, who are a climbing SF rock band with Fresno-area roots that just released a new CD too.
