Five Things You Should Do This Weekend

While saying hello to August (already?!?) …

1. LAUGH IT UP
In today’s Bee, I put together a big ol’ guide to the stand-up comedy scene in Fresno. It lists all the various comedy nights in town (weekly, monthly, etc.) So if you read it and wanna get out there to yuck it up immediately, you have three options this weekend.

2. GO OUT ON A LIMB
SoCal indie/pop band The New Limb heads back into Fresno on Saturday for a show over at Neighborhood Cafe. They recently won best indie rock band in the O.C. Music Awards. Give ‘em a listen here.

3. CELEBRATE THE MALL
There’s a Grand Party to celebrate the Fulton Mall on Saturday afternoon. It’s put on by the folks behind the Save the Fulton Mall Facebook page. The shindig is in honor of the page toppling the 1,000+ mark. It’ll have live music, poetry plus a big emphasis on the mall’s history, art, architecture and landscaping.

4. SEE THE ODDEST MIX OF THE WEEKEND: BULLYS and BURLESQUE
Fresno Bully Rescue — which promotes responsible ownership of pitbulls and finds foster homes for abused ones — is having its two-year anniversary party on Saturday. And it’s doing it with burlesque dancers! Win all around.

5. BE STRANGE AND FOXY
An epic pairing in Visalia Saturday night for those of you who like that new classic rock sound. Fresno’s Strange Vine heads down for their South Valley CD release and they’re joined by the boys of The Stone Foxes, who are a climbing SF rock band with Fresno-area roots that just released a new CD too.

I’ll be partying on the Fulton Mall

I’ll be joining Kiel in said party-ition.

AND…for the evening…a nice coooool way to spend it, would be to stroll on down Mainstreet in Visalia to Velouria Records and hear The Trike Shop for free as you browse their beautiful record store. We’ll be playing at 7:30…so might I suggest, even those people going to the awesome bill over at Cellar Door with Stone Foxes and Strange Vine…that before the doors open there …walk on by, hear some tunes and say hello.

I’m working tonight, but I WISH I could be at Thai Palms.

When Aaron Stewart is the last local on the list, you KNOW it’s gonna be a funny show. For those who haven’t seen Michelle Rowe, she is the wittiest/quickest and sexiest comic from Fresno in forever.

I agree with the comments in your story…comedy is going so great now, but like the Karaoke boom of 10 or so years ago, I think it’s gonna settle down pretty quickly. There just can’t be the audiences to sustain so much good comedy. Johnny Osbourne, Andre Covington, these guys are headliners anywhere. Feather’s been around forever.

I think the ‘new guys’ who are booking rooms will either explode and start touring away from Fresno or will just get tired of doing the rooms every week.

But for now? I’m loving it!

I would have to say that I attended Fajita Fiesta. Mr. Andre Covington you put together an excellent night of entertainment. I am there for your next comedy show. I had a great time at Fajita Fiesta. My hats off to Mr. Coventington.
