Your guide to a Frestastic week ahead

PRE-TURKEY DAY PARTYING: I dunno whether it’s true or not, but the night before Thanksgiving has long been called the Biggest Bar Night of the Year. I can say there are a number of parties happening around town Wednesday night, as you can see above. Welcome home, brain-drainers!

TAKE A PICTURE OF FILTER: Alt-rockers Filter are at Starline on Tuesday night. The band is best known for its 1999 hit “Take a Picture.” The band’s most recent material, however, has a bit of an industrial edge.

TOKYO GARDEN GETS SAUCY: Tokyo Garden has a nice run of shows eager to please the hipsters home for Thanksgiving. College Kids, High Winds and Brian Kenney Fresno play Wednesday in what is a benefit for The Undercurrent (R.I.P.?). Aesop and Destructo Bunny are playing Friday, while Brother Luke and The Comrades, Archaeology and Rademacher play Saturday. All three have $5 covers and 9:30 p.m. starts.

IT’S TRADITION: A couple post-Thanksgiving gigs you can count on each year: Local Doors tribute band The Double Doors (playing Friday at Starline) and Visalia’s Latin/rock fave Mezcal (Friday night at The Cellar Door).

ZAPP: The biggest old-school party in town this week isn’t at your uncle’s house on Thanksgiving. It’s at Crossroads on Saturday night when Zapp hits the stage.

SACRED CIRCUS: This two-day event in Tulare called The Sacred Circus has it all: It’s a tattoo convention with more than a dozen bands, cage fights, beer pong, carnival games, oil wrestling .. and it’s free.

Somos One from the Oakland based BRWN BFLO crew will be performing with Aesop and Destructo too, and from what I know this may be the first time Destructo has played in Fresno since he came back from S.D. to the Valley. This show should not be missed…

Somos One was born in the Valley, born in Delano, and recently released a double mixtape on Sep 11 at La Pena in Berkeley. Somos is part of the BRWN BFLO crew, and like his BFLO brothers, he graduated from Berkeley and has been working with youth in Oakland…
