While we see if Josh Koscheck “brings the belt back to Fresno” …
1. GET CHRISTMAS CRUNK
The big concert of the weekend is Alternative Press-sponsored Christmas Pageant Tour, which brings the “crunk” sounds of Family Force 5 and tourmates Forever the Sickest Kids and Secondhand Serenade to town. It oughta be a sweaty, all-ages affair at Rainbow Ballroom. Family Force 5, in particular, puts on a crazy show — and it’s going to be Christmas-ified. Read this interview for more. Tickets here.
2. PARADE AROUND DOWNTOWN
Saturday is Fresno’s Christmas parade — 81st annual, y’all — it starts at 10 a.m. in downtown Fresno. Afterward, head over to the Fulton Mall for a new event called Winter Wonderland, which promises hot cocoa, pics with Santa and more.
3. COME OF AGE
Indie rock aficionados are no doubt excited about tonight’s show at Howie & Son’s in Visalia with No Age, the Sub Pop Records duo whose “Everything in Between” is being lauded by critics as one of the top albums of the year. 9:30 p.m. $10. All-ages. Here’s a taste:
4. ABIDE BY THE DUDE
If you’re a “Big Lebowski” fan, the place to be tonight is Rodeo Lanes for its Lebowski Night. For $20, you get unlimited bowling (plus shoe rental). Lebowski costumes and creative team names are encouraged. Also: study up for Lebowski trivia. It’s hosted and organized by Giovi from the Central Valley Talk Show “The Bullpen Cafe.”
5. ROCK OUT, GIVE SOME TOYS
There are a few different toy-drive events that have come across my desk for this weekend — a couple of them are music related too. So here’s a look at some ways you can get entertained and help some kids enjoy Christmas.
BONUS: SEE SOME HOLIDAY BURLESQUE
No, you don’t have to go to the movie theater to see Burlesque — ’cause it’s more than just that Cher movie, ya know. Take for instance, this weekend’s Christmas show from the ladies of the Valley Burlesque Society. It’s gonna be cold outside, but it’s gonna be hot inside Full Circle Brewing Co.
