While you keep an eye out for crappy TV commercials …
1. RHYME WITH DAS RACIST
Oddball hip-hop group Das Racist is at Audie’s Olympic tonight, combining that Internet-era humor we all love so much, a gluttony of pop culture references and actual dope beats and rhymes. These dudes are selling out much bigger venues in much bigger cities, so let’s hope Fresno shows up. More on Das Racist here. Opening is Populus, who showed off his shtick at Pecha Kucha the other night and won over the crowd.
2. GET HYPE AT FULTON 55
Lots of people are psyched about 40 Watt Hype’s Fulton 55 debut on Saturday night. They’ve got Clouded Vision and King Sugar with them, so it oughta be another big night for local music over at the 55. If you need advance tickets, get ‘em here.
3. DRINK 60 BEERS; SEE STRANGE VINE
Two big attractions Saturday night at Full Circle Brewing Co., where local blog Dead in 60 Years holds its Dead in 60 Beers event. (1) To see if anybody actually drinks 60 beers. We’re thinking no. Three Imperial Stouts at Full Circle can do you in. (2) Awesome local band Strange Vine, who is back from a frantic SXSW trip and playing its first gig back home. And, hey, it’s FREE.
4. BECOME A DAYTRADER
Here’s a big punkish show at the little ol’ Chinatown Youth Center: Daytrader, This Time Next Year, Seahaven and A Week Away. I’m guessing this is gonna be packed. It’s an all-ages show, too, for you kids out there.
5. HOP IN THE JACUZZI
Starline has a new Sunday comedy night, “The Jacuzzi.” It’s a monthly started and organized by Boney Beezly, who you know best from rap group Argyle Pimps. Headlining this second installment is Rory Scovel, who has been seen on Jimmy Fallon, Comedy Central and more.
