We’ll start with the best:
CREATIVE FRESNO — MEMBERS ONLY PARTY
Floyd Sanchez of Antilabs did this poster for Creative Fresno’s upcoming Members Only party (more here). He got an illustration assist from Zero Lopez. And, really, who doesn’t love the Members Only jacket?
DOWNTOWN FOR JAPAN
Ignition Labs (recently opened at Iron Bird Lofts, btw) designed this for the upcoming “Downtown for Japan” benefit concert at Fulton 55. I like its weathered look and that it gets the idea across simply, but is still artistic.
PONCHO SANCHEZ AT FULTON 55
Johnny Q (of Love the Captive and Fulton 55) made this for Poncho Sanchez’s upcoming April 23 show. It’s simple, clean and effective — three of the most important things for concert posters.
Worst Fliers of the Week
I’d admit this was just a regular ol’ mediocre flier until I saw what was stripped across the middle: “Who doesnt [sic] like to party? Dun Winning!” People of Fresno and the rest of the world, there is no reason, at this point, you should still be quoting Charlie Sheen on your Twitter updates … let along putting it on your event fliers. Two words: Played out!
Really? A “Shockers Party?” What all does that in entail? Running around the club drunkenly putting your hands in people’s orifices? Have we learned nothing from the “butt drag” case? And if you’re going to have something as cheesy as a “Shockers Party,” the least you could do it not have such an awkward line break on the poster.
Maybe comedy fliers should get a pass? Maybe there’s something intentionally funny that I’m just not getting? Nope, sorry, this is a hot mess. I don’t even know where to start or stop reading this. It’s confusing, way too busy and is just plain ugly.
