To-Do Tonight: Gypsies, Cougars and Burning Bands

Looking for a live music adventure tonight? Then head over to Full Circle Brewing Co. in Chinatown, where Portland band The Underscore Orkestra makes a tour stop. The band plays gypsy jazz and swing, mixed with Eastern European folk music (balkan, klezmer). That translates into a live show that includes a belly dancer, an accordion and more.

Sounds a little different, no? The band comes with a co-sign from excellent Fresno flamenco band Cerro Negro, who is opening the show. It starts at 7:30 p.m. Cover is $10.

The also-eclectic Yogoman Burning Band is at Fulton 55 for a “Take a Chance” night, The Standard and 559 After Dark host another “Cougar and Cub Party” while Karma Restaurant & Lounge gives us a new Wednesday night party option downtown.

I thought Parachute was playing tonight at The Standard for Alice 96.7?
Im confused, is Alice 96.7 teaming up with the Cougar party…oh my gosh…did I win because I AM a cougar!!!! Im in my early 30s!!! Thanks Mike…now I feel old and exciting. :)

Mike Oz says:

Hmmm. I dunno. This is first I head of that, but according to Alice’s site, it’s happening.

Maybe Standard double-booked?

The Standard says:

Hey Monica! The Cougar event runs from 6-8pm on the front patio (secluded) and the the Alice event runs from 7-9pm on the inside. They are two separate events.

Monica says:

Sounds like tons of fun!

being from socal, i am used to the klezmer from jewish events. with no visable jewish community in fresno, this was a treat and the draw ! it was advertised they had a middle eastern “belly dancer”. in reality it was an american tribal dancer. she was very good if one likes american dance .
