To-Do Tonight: A Day to Remember and A Day Without Shoes

Pop/punk/metalcore dudes A Day to Remember bring their current headlining tour to the Woodward Park Amphitheatre tonight.

Since we’ve last seen ADTR in Fresno, they’ve made leaps toward mainstream success, getting picked as a break-out band by MTV, hitting the late-night talk show circuit and more.

I wrote a feature story on the band that was in Monday’s Bee, talking about how Fresno has seen the rise of ADTR first-hand, from playing small clubs to Crest Theatre to Rainbow Ballroom and now Woodward Park.

As you can see on their cool tour poster, Bring Me the Horizon, Pierce the Veil and We Came As Romans are also playing tonight, making for a pretty big show for the teen rock crowd. (I know my 15-year-old sister is psyched). So if you see a bunch of kids lined up at Woodward Park this afternoon, now you know why.

Today is also the TOMS Shoes-sponsored One Day Without Shoes. Visalia’s 210 Cafe is hosting a big event to raise awareness … and, of course, offer up some great music. So Cal indie band The Steelwells, fresh from headlining The Cellar Door, are playing this too.

Here’s some info via Aaron Gomes of the Sound N Vision Foundation:

“One Day Without Shoes” is a free community-wide event designed to raise the awareness that a simple pair of shoes can have oadramatic impact on a child’s life.

For three year now 210 has hosted this TOMS Shoes annual global event. Friends, strangers, parents, students, and co-workers are encouraged to go without shoes for at least one hour throughout their day to raise awareness to third-world country children that are forced to go through life shoeless. The TOMS shoes business model is simple. For every pair of TOMS shoes sold, a pair of of shoes gets sent to needy children in thrid-world countries, with a particular focus in Argentina and Africa.

In addition to shoe donations, 210, Visalia Rescue Mission, Fox Theatre, and Sound N Vision Foundation have commited to “Invest In the Community”. This community event will share the TOMS story, feature six bands on two stages, and host thirty state-wide vendors, all taking place on Visalia’s corner or Locust and Center.

Donations are encouraged throughout the day, and online at:
