To-Do Tonight: Kurt Elling serenades Fresno

Acclaimed jazz vocalist Kurt Elling — considered the “standout male vocalist of our time” per the New York Times — is at Tower Theatre tonight. Jazz fans already know this, but if you’re just looking to see a top-notch concert tonight and you’ve got $40-$50 to drop on tickets, Elling is supposed to be great live.

Here’s the EPK for his most recent album, “The Gate,” on which he collaborated with legendary producer Don Was (he works with the Rolling Stones). It’ll give you a good idea what Elling’s all about and how golden his voice is. There’s a live performance video below.

Thanks to those who came out to hear one of the best jazz vocalists of our time. Mr Elling was spot on in his vocals, his band was flawless and his personality on and off stage was infectious.

Fresno City College Students were invited to the sound check after which he took the time to meet them and even invite them on stage for a group picture.

I could tell he was very happy to be in Fresno (it was his first time here)and to perform at The Tower Theatre. The love that was in the room was absolutely heartwarming.

For those that missed it, pay attention- he will be back!!
